Tony and Bruce had been working for days on end, barely leaving the lab. Tony believed they were, "On the brink of something amazing." It turns out they were. They made a device that could peer into different universes.
"Wow," Bruce muttered as he stared through the screen, "Who knew something like that could even exist?" he asked as he stared at the large rainbow saber-tooth tiger stalking it's prey in think colorful grass. The tie-die bird with deer antlers perked up, hearing rustling.
Tony came up behind Bruce, looking at the sight. "It's amazing. I can't believe we built this," he said as he touched the projection screen. He swiped it, going to a different universe.
"Heh, look at this. In this universe, we don't even exist as people. We're just movie and comic book characters," he said. Bruce asked, "What, why? Our lives are boring; who'd want to watch that?"
"You're life may be boring, but mine is very much interesting," Tony said pointing at the scientist. Bruce just rolled his eyes, but the small smile on his face soon faded.
"Uh, Tony?" Bruce spoke as he noticed the monitor beginning to go unstable. "Yeah?" he spoke, not at all alarmed by the tone in his voice. "You may want to get back," he warned. Tony had skimmed through the different universes, and an image of hundreds of people gathered in Washington D.C. was on the screen. He turned around to see a worried Bruce.
Suddenly sparks flew from the machine, and the lights began to flicker. The machines in the lab began to go haywire and one of Tony's suit suddenly turned on. For some unknown reason, one of Tony's suits attached itself to Tony, protecting his body. Before he and the doctor could act, the window suddenly turned into a large portal, sucking them in.
The other team members heard the large explosion, and went to investigate. They all were in their gear, having just finished with a small mission, and headed down to the lab. Steve an Thor were the first there, but were soon dragged into the portal. Natasha and Clint weren't too far behind and suffered the same fate.
The team found themselves among a large crowd somewhere between the Lincoln Memorial and the Reflection Pool. There was a stage with a mic stand and a few people around it. Apparently, whatever they were saying was important.
"Tony what the hell did you do?!" Steve yelled at him. Tony lifts the face plate up to speak clearly. "Why do you just assume it's always me? How do you know it's not Bruce?" Tony asked.
"When has it ever been Bruce's fault?" Natasha asked. Tony tried to answer, but couldn't, so Clint said, "Never. So what the hell happened." Bruce sighed and explained what had gone wrong.
By now people had started taking notice of them and gave them strange looks. "Tony, I don't know how you're gonna do it, but you're gonna get us back. Now." Steve's voice was stern, demanding Tony to fix whatever it was he had done.
