Gasping for breath as she opened her eyes, she realised something felt unusual. She remembered a dream where a mysterious man called her name— was it Luke, Luka, or Lucas?
She was so absorbed in her thoughts that she didn't immediately notice her surroundings. When she finally did, her eyes widened in surprise. Where was she? Where was this place? The room was filled with opulent items and had a distinctly medieval appearance.
"The little princess is finally awake!" An unfamiliar voice broke through her daze, making her turn her head. She discovered herself in an opulent room, where a girl was drawing back the curtains. As the curtains parted, a flood of sunlight streamed in, hitting her directly in the face and nearly blinding her.
Remembering what had happened, she internally gasped in shock. Wasn’t she supposed to be dead from the fire at the café? The last thing she remembered was feeling the intense heat of the fire while being trapped inside the café with the other customers. Isn't she supposed to be dead?
She looked around once more and attempted to stand, only to realise she couldn’t move, which annoyed her. She remained still for a moment before reaching up to look her hand. A baby's hand. Huh?
She then glanced back at the woman and then at her hand. The woman seemed enormous— not because she was giant, but because she was now so small. She had become a baby.
“Princess, is something wrong?” the woman asked, swiftly moving to the baby and lifting her into her arms. She cradled her gently, her face etched with worry. The baby, struggling internally and feeling frantic, gazed up at her with wide, terrified eyes. How could she not be terrified? She, an adult woman who was supposed to be dead, had inexplicably turned into a baby and found herself in an unfamiliar place.
The only plausible explanation for her situation seemed to be reincarnation. After all, how else could she end up here? But that raised another question— Was reincarnation even possible? Given her current predicament, it seemed the answer might be yes because there was no way she would have survived the fire incident.
She had been given another chance at life. She knew she should feel grateful and embrace this opportunity, but it was hard not to panic. Everything was happening so quickly, and it was overwhelming. Who wouldn’t panic upon realising they had turned into a baby after a traumatic death experience? The sudden and bizarre shift from being an adult to an infant, especially after such a harrowing ordeal, was bound to be deeply unsettling.
Adding to her distress, she found herself struggling to move around. Her head felt unbearably heavy, and it dawned on her that she would have to deal with this discomfort for a considerable time.
Noticing that the woman had set her down, she took a moment to calm herself. As she looked around again, she realised she appeared to be in a medieval setting. The woman who had carried her earlier was dressed in a maid's outfit and referred to her as a princess. So, she's a princess in this life. She should consider herself lucky– or not.
She took her time to appreciate the woman before her. With her brown hair neatly tied in a bun and dressed in a maid’s outfit, the woman still radiated a graceful elegance. Her ocean eyes sparkled with a subtle glimmer, and a soft, reassuring smile graced her lips. Beautiful– was what she first thought.
"Has the princess taken a liking to me already?" The woman asked with a warm smile, sitting in front of her while she remained in the bassinet. "Ah, how thoughtless of me. I haven’t mentioned my name to the princess yet.."
"I am the head maid of this palace, your little Highness. My name is Lillian York, and I’ll be your nanny starting from today." She smiled warmly and gently poked the princess’ nose, eliciting a small giggle from her. Her aura was soothing and gentle, radiating warmth and calm.
The princess paused, looking up at her with wide, innocent eyes. Lilian York… It was a familiar name to her. Where had she heard it? She swore she had heard that name before. After repeating the name in her head a few times, it finally struck a chord. She wasn't just merely reincarnated into a world with royalty. Instead, she had been reborn into the very novel she had read before.
The novel she had read and completed in one day; The Lovely Princess, was the exact world she now found herself in. The story follows the journey of the charismatic heroine, Jennette Margarita, and the challenges she faced as she rose through the ranks of the imperial family in the Obelian Empire, becoming the daughter of Emperor Claude de Alger Obelia, and there was a princess named Athanasia, who was killed off in the novel after being accused of poisoning the heroine of the story.
She didn't remember much of the novel’s details; it had been a long time since she last read it. But she had no problem with that. She just has to keep a low profile.. but there was a problem. She's a princess. And her nanny is Lillian York. Athanasia's loyal nanny in the novel. Was she reborn as Athanasia in this world? No, that's not possible–
"Oh, I’ve yet to reveal the name of the princess, have I not?" Her thoughts were interrupted when Lillian York, her nanny, spoke. She focused intently, waiting for Lillian to reveal her name, silently praying that the name Athanasia would not be spoken.
“Ambrosia de Alger Obelia,” Lillian said. Ambrosia— the Undying Ambrosia. She blinked twice before letting out a sigh of relief. "That's the name of her little Highness." She added with a warm smile plastered on her face.
She was relieved for a moment, not until she realized something. If her name is Ambrosia, then where is Athanasia? Does she not exist in this world? Was she replaced by her? She was just a non-existent character here.
"It appears the princess is feeling quite lonely," Lillian remarked, rising from her seat and gently lifting the princess once again with a gracious smile. "Might Her Highness wish to be introduced to her sister?"
