Chapter-1

" CODE BLUE. CODE BLUE. CODE BLUE Everyone. " Yelled someone on the loud speaker. 

You know the feeling when it is not you who is making you upright on your feet but it is your instinct that tells you to run because it is the most crucial thing to do at the moment, well in Nandini's case other's crucial life. It was that moment when she heard the announcement but it was not just her with her fast instinct but other couple doctors who knew where they are required urgently.

So understanding the situation, they all nothing but ran towards the emergency unit. When they reached the emergency unit they heard Chief  Rathore, the Chief Surgeon of the Heartbeat Hospital, who started briefing them about the accident, "Car and a truck accident 3 severely injured, 3 with minor injuries, one of whom has a fractured arm." 

He stopped letting them process the information and then continued, "Another accident has occured wherein a bus had an accident not far from here with probably 20 patients, we don't know how many of them are severely injured or how many with just minor injuries. All of them are coming here, we need fast hands everyone. I need 7 doctor's team with their own 3 members team. Make it fast everyone we are short on time.
Since the bus accident didn't occur far from here, they'll arrive first and then the other patients will arrive, but as we have information that the car accident have severely injured people, we will need two doctors on hand. Understand everyone. Be calm and in control, these patients lives are in our hands. ", he completed with all the seriousness.

And the moment he finished his little speech the doctors without further delay started making their own teams. Sakshi, Mitali and Abhay, 2nd year residents, came running towards Nandini. The moment all teams were made they heard the ambulance sirens and the patients came getting wheeled in. The first patient was taken by Dr. Rathor.

When the second patient came in, I was fast enough to reach her and give her an oxygen mask as she was having trouble breathing and by assessing her I gave her the treatment and bandaged her forehead. I checked her blood pressure and concluded by looking at her eyes that she has a concussion and soon she fainted so I asked my junior resident, Mitali,  to take her for a MRI as she had a head injury. 

Then I helped another patient, "Hello sir, I'm Dr. Murty. I'll help you out today. Where is it paining sir?" I asked.

Rather than replying me with a yes or no he in fact asked me about his wife. The lady I just treated. I chuckled, how cute!!. "She is fine sir, just resting I have given her injection, that's why she is sleeping. She'll be fine after waking up." ,  I informed.

"So, now. Will you tell me, is it paining anywhere?"  ,I asked again.

"No, Not really. Just a headache, maybe a migraine.", he replied.

"ok sir", and then turning towards my residents, I asked them to give him a  Sumatriptan for his migraine and to keep him under monitor.

When I looked around all the Doctors were treating the injured. There was a patient who was severely bleeding by looking at his clothing I identified him as the driver, Dr. Kapoor was looking after him and as I didn't have any patient at that moment I decided to give him a hand. 

"He needs to be operated on right now" , when I reached to dr. Kapoor, he began and started wheeling him in towards the operation theater with me in tow.

As we were going in for the operation theatre, we heard the commotion and concluded it as the other 6 patients came in by hearing the  noises of the staff.

We entered the operation theater and started treating him. In the middle of the operation there was a shout for me, they required me outside to operate on another patient that instant. Giving a nod to Dr. Kapoor I went outside to check on the patient. 

There were 6 new people in the emergency, 2 of them who were getting wheeled in to the operation theatre. When I reached my patient, my breathing stopped, no- no, this can't be happening now I-I-- . 

" Dr-" Started I almost fell but I stabilized myself by grabbing onto his hand, SHIT. "yes", I replied.

"The patient", my resident said, eyeing him.

I-I-I cannot. I will not.

"What's Dr. Mehra treating on?", I inquired.

Abhay replied excitedly, " Diffuse axonal injury" 

I raised my eyebrows, of course only he will be excited for the surgery. It is after all one of the most complicated head surgery. Well can't blame him if I was a resident it would have been exciting for me too, looking at something new, different, difficult. Not that it isn't right now.. YES !!!

"Dr. Mehra" , I shouted.

"I'll take your patient. That's my kind of surgery", I shouted excitedly  startling everyone, excited for - leaving him or for the surgery. Don't know. But without giving it another thought I looked ahead towards Dr. Mehra.

Giving me a look of disbelief, Dr. Mehra, gave me a nod and came towards him.

My patient, The Heartthrob, The King of many hearts, The CEO, The Billionaire, The Rockstar, The Manik Malhotra.

And me I was just a mere human being, no, I am no more a mere human being, not anymore atleast. I am Nandini.  Doctor Nandini Murty. So without looking back or giving him much of a thought just like he never gave me much of thought I looked ahead and, went inside my kingdom, where I was the queen and everyone looked up to me for the decisions, inside my theater, Operation Theatre.
