Hogwarts a History was a very interesting book. According to it, there was a school that taught witches and wizards how to control and then use their magic. Students in the school where divided into four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin. Gryffindor was for the brave, Hufflepuff was for the kind, Ravenclaw was for the smart, and Slytherin was for the cunning. If the school did exist, Hermione would probably be a Ravenclaw.

She wasn't very brave and she didn't know about how kind she was since she barely even had bearable interactions with other human beings that weren't her parents. She was slightly cunning, but smarts were definitely her biggest forte. As Hermione flipped through the pages, her thoughts lost in a world of magic, she suddenly heard a noise that sounded suspiciously like someone had popped a balloon from downstairs. Were her parents home?

She glanced at the clock. It was only 11:47. Hermione's parents were punctual, and according to her mom, the dentistry office was very busy today, so they would arrive on time, if not probably late. So then, who was it? It could be robbers, but burglaries were uncommon in the small and (for the most part) humble neighborhood. The bullies in the neighborhood were convinced she wasn't home, and it would never come in their small brains to check again. Whoever it was, Hermione needed to find out.

Hermione tip-toed out of her room, quiet as a mouse. She crawled down the stairs, grabbed a large book as a weapon, and turned to find... A woman. A very peculiar one at that. She had  emerald green robes and a pointy hat resting on her head. Although her hair was graying and she seemed proper with her green eyes and half-circle spectacles which gave her a strict look, there were wrinkles on the sides of her eyes, proving that although she might be disciplined most of the time, she also knew how to have some fun.

"I take it you are Ms. Hermione Granger?" The woman asked. Her voice was clear and demanding. Hermione found herself nodding and staring at the woman awestruck.

"Are you," Hermione struggled to think of the name in the letter. "Are you Professor McGonagall?"

"Why, indeed." The professor allowed a thin lipped smile.

"So," Hermione said, her brown eyes looking up at the professor's green ones hopefully. "So, the letter and the book; Everything in it was true?"

The professor nodded looked at the girl wonderingly. "You finished the entire book?" The young girl in front of her bobbed her head up and down. Minerva McGonagall was not one to usually be surprised, but this girl, she concluded, will be the cause of many surprises to come.

Hermione smiled, a real smile that lit up her face. "So... I'm not a freak? All those things I did... I'm not alone?"

"Yes," Professor McGonagall said, sparing a rare smile, "You are not alone." The professor had never seen a child tear up so easily in her 101 years of living (A/N I actually researched, and apparently she was about 101 years old in the Philosopher's Stone which is just WOW) , but then the girl, who had previously came closer with hope, stumbled back on the stairs and sat down, her hands covering her face.

"No, this is probably just a prank by the neighbors." Hermione felt tears rising up to her eyes again and tried to keep her sob from erupting out. Of course, it was all just a prank.

The lady clad in green took one look at the girl, sighed and took out her wand. "You see this?" She asked. Professor McGonagall flicked her wrist, muttered something that sounded like 'wingardium leviosa' and the book which was still in Hermione's hands rose up and with he movement of the professor's wand, landed on the table. The professor then flicked her wrist again and the book set on fire. "This is not a prank."

And that's how the Granger couple came home to see a dentistry research book on fire next to a woman in robes who was looking at their wide-eyed daughter. Needless to say they panicked.

After about an hour all three Grangers were still in shock after the professor explained everything. Understandably, it was a lot to take in. Despite this, Hermione was excited beyond her wildest dreams. Her chocolate brown eyes were wide and her brown hair seemed to poof even more with her excitement. She turned to her parents.

"Can I please go to Hogwarts?" She begged. "Please?"

The Grangers looked at each other. Hermione hardly ever asked for anything, and if what this professor was saying is true, then this would be really good for her, and maybe even them. Exchanging thoughts silently, after a minute, they turned back and both gave cautious nods, examining their daughter carefully for her reaction.

Hermione looked at her parents, never having felt so excited in her life. So when her mother agreed, she leapt from her seat and hugged them both tightly.

"I love you guys so much." She said, her face squished between their shoulders as she sank into the warm embrace. She pulled back, the biggest grin on her face, before turning to the professor, who had watched this all unfold with a smile twitching on her lips.

"What time would be most suitable for me to pick up your daughter and buy the school supplies?" She asked the parents. "Diagen Alley, which is where we'll get the needed supplies, won't be very easy to explore as muggles such as yourself don't fully understand the dynamics of the Wizarding society."

"Muggles?" Mrs. Granger asked.

"Non-magic people." Hermione clarified.

Mr. Granger stood up. "We had better get going now. As for the time, anytime this weekend should be fine."

Professor McGonagall stood up as well. "I will arrive this Saturday 1:00 pm then. The term starts on September 1st." She nodded her head at both parents and then disappeared.

For three whole minutes, there was silence in the Granger house.

"So," Mr. Granger cleared his throat. "Hermione, me and my mother best get going now."

"You haven't had lunch yet!" Hermione shook her head and ran in the kitchen, emerging with two sandwiches. "Here, eat this along the way. I made them when you guys were gone."

Mrs. Granger smiles down at her daughter and kissed her head goodbye. "We'll be back at 6:00."

Hermione watched them go, pleased. 6 hours was more than enough time to study each and every bit of Hogwarts a History.
