IMPORTANT NOTE: The chapters after Chapter 10 are continued in my new account, @ultimate-bibliophile
When Hermione Granger receives a letter from Hogwarts, she is anything but sad. Excited to leave her dismal home behind and release her parent's bur...
The door swung open immediately, not a single creak echoing from the large hinges. It revealed a majestic looking witch emerald green robes with small oval specs resting on the tips of her thin nostrils. A stern expression on her face, yet laugh lines lined her eyes, blending in with the aging wrinkles. Hermione could feel shuffles around her as kids tried to unconsciously move away, scared of this stern woman, but she simply stared at her in shock, an unpremeditated small smile gracing her delicate features.
Professor McGonagall winked at her, unnoticeable to everyone else. Despite having barely met the child, she already had a soft spot for Hermione.
"The firs' years, Professor McGonagall," said Hagrid, shuffling in his boots. Hermione could tell that despite his size, he too was slightly scared by the elder witch. On upon close look, he even seemed to be almost like a softy, bushels of his bread covering the bottom part of his face, but his brown eyes were warm and almost a bit childish.
"Thank you, Hagrid. I'll take them from here."
She opened the doors wider and led them instead. Hermione's jaw dropped open at the inside, which was even more magical than the outside, and it was just the entrance hall, which alone was big enough to house at least two houses like Hermione's. She felt small against the tall walls and the flickering torches resting on stands, filling the hall with an ethereal light and warming the students, who had forgotten their chill in the awe of it all.
They followed the professor up marble stairs that ended at a place Hermione couldn't quite see. But as they followed her up the flagged stone halls, Hermione could just make out what lay ahead. It was a junction between two doors. The one on the right had ringing laughter and voices, where everyone else must have already been situated. But that wasn't where they were about to go.
While most of the students turned to the right door, attracted by the chatters and giggles resounding from it, Professor McGonagall lead them to the left into a small hall. As they walked in, Hermione took in a deep breath. This was it; the time of the sorting.
(A/N I was thinking of ending the chapter here cause you know, cliffhanger... See you guys next chapter!!)
