I turned around to see . . . Axel? I raised an eyebrow, a signal which usually means, what or, I'm confused. At the moment, I was both.
He let go and said, "AJ?" I nodded as he continued, "Read minds?"
That was a first. I thought for a moment. Then I shook my head.
He looked me dead in the eye. I shrugged. "Ok," he said, maybe a little relieved.
After a long pause, he asked smirking, "Friends?"
"Friends?!" I sent him. His expression, just for a second, looked disturbed then back to the grin.
"Yes," he went on, "Friends."
I didn't know what to say. He was probably the first person to ever ask me to become friends. I felt a strange sort of excitement. The excitement of finally having a friend.
"I guess." I sent him plainly even though I felt myself feeling really eager.
"Now, friend, or should I say AJ, let's get to know each other."
"Later," I said even though my mind was racing with excitement. I finally had a friend!
I tried to sashay away but I'm pretty sure it looked like a zombie walk.
