Two Gryffindors

When Hagrid leads us into the luminus castle the floating candles are shining bright flickering with the pass of every student. We all hug and say goodbye to each other and Regan and I walk over to the Hufflepuff table. As we approach the noisy table Regan leans over to me and says. "Hey rat, look at that boy over there." She points at a Hufflepuff boy with fluffy black hair that fell into his eyes. He was sitting by another Hufflepuff girl and reading some manga I couldn't see the name of.

"Oh my." I say and elbow her." Look he's even reading anime!" I laugh as she starts swatting at me to be quiet as we sit down near the two. She didn't want to sit too close to the boy but also wanted to be close enough to stare at him without attracting attention. As I take a closer look at the boy I notice that he has a very sharp jawline and veiny hands. His lips were pink and plump. Not that I was checking him out of course. But I am the mother of our group and I wanted to see if he was a good match for my daughter. (Symbolically) I like to think that everybody is a good person, but even though he is in Hufflepuff you never know. Ireland taught me to never fully trust everybody at first. He seemed alright. My attention was brought back as the lights dimmed and Dumbledor began his usual speech.

I wasn't really paying attention anymore when I see Araelynn sitting by George and Fred. They are laughing and whispering as Fred slips something into Araelynn's hands. I can't tell what it is but I don't need to in order to tell that it isn't good. Especially when I see Araelynn point at Filch, and George nod. She makes a face and then catches my eye. You can tell she didn't mean to when she immediately looks down again and covers her eyes. I give her my best "Mother scolding" look when she looks back up again. She tries her best to look inconspicuous. She knows that I know though. I can tell when she winces and says something to Fred and George.

When Dumbledor finishes his speech and food appears on the table I get up and make my way over to Raelynn. I fold my arms at her and then look at Fred and George. " Please don't let her get into any sort of trouble or make any trouble," I say pointedly.

"Oh, Araelynn?" Fred starts.

"Oh, never." George finishes putting a hand on her shoulder. "I'll keep your little friend out of trouble." He offers me his signature wink and I can't help but laugh. He thinks he appears cocky and confident but he just looks ridiculous.

"Realynn." I say and give her a look.

"What?" She says and throws her arms up in the air and looks at the ground.

"Fine," I say knowing that I can't really do anything to stop her, but also knowing that she would never do anything that hurt Filch. I sigh and walk back over to my table where Regan has saved me a plate of all my favorite things. I thank her and dig in hungrily. I hadn't realized just how hungry I was until I ate. The food was delicious. Warm beads coated in sugar, buttermilk soup that I hadn't known existed until I came here. Crackers that were lightly brushed in salt, and Italian chicken covered in a sauce that I know my father would be proud of. Pumpkin juice that was seasoned so well it would make my mother's homemade kind look pitiful in comparison. And my mother can make some pretty powerful Pumpkin juice. The dessert was heavenly. Soft coffee cakes that made my mouth water and cookies that were still warm. They reminded me of Mrs. Weasley's.

I was so stuffed by the time I was done that I could barely move. But still, I trudged back to my dorm I shared with Regan, Hannah Abbott, and a few other Hufflepuff girls named Holly Trail, and Lola Sqeiwter. They were all sweet girls and I appreciated that they had us with the same girls since year one. It always made things easier for me. Though, I certainly didn't mind talking to new people. It's just that these girls were my friends.

I didn't even bother to unpack my trunk into the small drawers they give us. I just simply laid down. Tomorrow was the first day back! I was very excited to get back into a formulated schedule. Though, it made my other friends like Lea anxious being used to that pressure. She says that she prefers the more laid-back ways of homeschooling. Those were my thought when I finally fell asleep. My hair was still in its uniform braid from the previous day.
