I saw Hans's face twist in horror as what he saw left a permanent scar in his mind. He set down my body as I was sent nearly crashing towards it. My heart had been taken but my forced escape had caused it to chip, fractured pieces floating through the mist. This kept me alive with my mind and willpower, but my power and strength belonged to someone else. Grizelda stared at her hand. After all this time, the organ that radiated with magic and shone with power was hers. Despite the chip, the organ beat loudly in her hands as it glowed. She grinned in amazement, it was beautiful. She wanted to taunt me but she wouldn't waste a second. "Bring me the rift."

Hans's hands trembled as he held me. "Wake up! Heal yourself! Do something!" I had never heard Hans panic as he did at that moment. He turned over to Grizelda and Nicholas who paid him no attention. "All of you deserve to die! If you're going to spread the curse to the gods I hope they make you abominations wish you were never born!" He screamed. His eyes watered, tears falling on my body.

I coughed groaning as red dripped down my lips. I was in so much pain. Something inside must have ruptured. "You're awake!" Hans cried out in relief. "You're injured, you have to heal yourself." I shook my head while coming closer and clinging to my brother. I had no wishing heart power left in me. I was only surviving until Grizelda used up my essence. He closed his eyes in heavy conflict. He didn't belong here. The thought was like ripping flesh off of a heavily sealed wound. He didn't belong to the gods either. He was nothing. This wasn't the time! This wasn't the time! His eyes glowed green. "Fine!" He tried to imagine healing me. It was basic. Surely he could do something truly magical. Light sparks of green energy burst out erratically in small bursts. He had no control. Like me, his panic worsened matters sending them in different directions. He let out a heavy yell, feeling emotions hurt. He was beginning to remember and he didn't want to.

As the sparks flew wildly a few touched the tears he had let fall on me. They slowly sunk into my body. Hans found that he was unable to stop. Staring into my empty face also reminded him of his emptiness. His stupidity to join the wrong crowd in his past life. His promise to protect me, in all lives. He had failed me. I was a wishing heart by birth, but he was only a ripple in the water that wasn't supposed to exist.

While my physical body began to heal on the inside my soul was still spread thin and exhausted. Sweat formed on his brow. "I'm so sorry." He whispered. . My bones seemed to shift back in place as my ruptured organ healed. I was still bleeding internally from somewhere and felt hurt and aches in all sorts of places but I was stable for now. I held his hoof in gratitude and forced a smile for him. His heart glowed in a filthy green before fading back into his chest. "I'm sorry." He repeated, his hoof pressed further into mine as his magic slowly ceased. It sent him to lay exhausted against me. He hadn't done nearly enough in this battle. He never did.

Nicholas was beginning to regain consciousness in his new form. Memories began to rush in. The curse that held his mind captive must've moved from him. His mother had won. He saw my frail body struggle to rise. The ground was sticky with the blood that had come from me. What had he done? He tried to speak but all that came out was a whine. I still tried to heal him, even after all he had done. The gaping hole in his belly was nearly completely healed by the rain but the healing process had stopped after my heart was taken. He tried again to cry or apologize but all that came out was a whimper of regret. A yelp followed before some type of croak. What had Grizelda done to him? He growled at her. He wanted to say something, anything! She had turned him into some type of animal! Looking back he backed away before he lowered his head toward me.

Hans glared at Nicholas trying to approach me. "Get away! Monster!" He screamed with fury biting into his nose. Nicholas let him. He deserved it. His mother had gotten what she wanted and now she didn't even bother to congratulate him. I spread my other arm forward. It wasn't his fault. "I'm sorry I couldn't be your hero," I admitted with a voice drained of energy. I patted his muzzle. He looked like some type of strange dragon, but I could sense that he was awake now. His eyes closed gently while a huff of air came from his nostrils. He pushed his head towards my arm as an apology. It was reassurance that I had done well to him. I stared at his stomach relieved at the improvement. Hans huffed looking back at Grizelda. This wasn't over.
