[1]OH, ADELINE!
oh, adeline! don't you see?
your hatred for the world
is still unclear to me.
you speak like fire,
if fire could speak
but oh, adeline
the rage you feel!
oh adeline! why do you only see
the worst in people
and what the fear.
you call yourself an ordinary girl
but oh, adeline, don't you see?
ordinary is categorized
with every other being. why do you say that?
since no one is more than ordinary.
oh adeline! why do you speak
of the world as if it is a spoiled child, gone too far
why do you lose faith in humanity?
but oh, adeline! why do you feel
so disconnected with this
raw, ancient world?
you're like a myth that has come
to taunt everything-
a fanned fire, with unquenched rage within.
oh adeline! why do you speak
of the world as it's poisoned
and weak?
this bitter hurricane inside of you
tears away a piece or two
of the world that you once felt
as your own.
oh, but adeline! you can't save everyone.
look at the mountain!
look at the trees!
look at the smiling mother feeding her daughter!
feel the beauty, feel the humanity!
oh adeline! take a walk with me.
oh adeline! watch the dew-kissed trees.
breathe in the freshness, untouched by man.
enjoy it while it lasts and then
take me hand and breathe in me.
but oh, adeline! have some tea,
laugh with the townsfolk and share the household
of a hospitable, smiling family who offer you their only bed.
oh adeline! smile for me!
oh adeline, dip your aching feet
in the cool stream- purer than a shy virgin
giggling amiably-
numb your feet and float with me.
trust the current and trust the wind,
because oh adeline! don't you see?
occasionally we shall reach the river bed
and river beds are a
sanctuary.
oh adeline! do you now see?
there is still some laughter,
still some hope left in your world.
it's time for you to let go of your bitterness
and taste the sweet homemade mango jam,
a Dutch woman prepared for the homeless on her street.
oh, but adeline! it's time for you to see
your mother's face as she hugs your chest.
it's alright, you can weep too-
i won't tell,
oh adeline! return home and return well!
- OH, ADELINE!
(the author wrote this because the world probably doesn't suck.)
