ON THE 12TH hour, of the first day of October 1989, forty-three women around the world gave birth. This was unusual only in the fact that none of these women had been pregnant when the day first began.

On the 12th hour, of the second of October 1989, eccentric billionaire Reginald Hargeeves set out to the first woman who had one of these extraordinary children. Her name was Odalia Ratcliffe, a 20 year-old living in New York the same as the odd man who wanted to adopt so many children.

Only, this Odalia didn't want to give up her baby. Her spirituality playing a large part in wanting to care for the strange baby. She had consulted with the gods, the spirits, the other worldly beings. When the opportunity presented itself to her, she saw it as a way to continue her practice. Even if it meant leaving her family and living on her own for a while.

Instead of going their separate ways, like all the other mothers Reginald talked to, what the man ended up with was a spiteful witch who just wanted to know what was going on with the world. So, being the petty person she was, she spent the rest of her life holding a powerful grudge against the man known as The Monocle.

Now with her child, the one born at the same time as the other 43 kids, she grew up in a safe space. Happy with her mother and growing up to be just as odd. When she was three, her mother married a lawyer. The man was a cheater, didn't really focus much on their family, but her mother said it didn't matter. As long as he supplied her lifestyle and gave them a home.

She enjoyed cartoons. She enjoyed the arts. She enjoyed the things people found to be weird; obsessed with them and wanting to learn more about it. So when she was five, and she manifested the powers that the others would one day, she quickly became fascinated with the one boy who could see her.

He thought he was going crazy, seeing a little girl no one else would. It was his first experience, thinking it scary to see people. Though he grew to care for her. When more people turned up and he got scared, thinking maybe his nightmares were coming to life, he would find solace in the girl who claims to be real.

This girl would listen to all his problems. And he would listen to hers. Well the problems any kid would have, like someone pushing them on the playground. She would enjoy telling him about the world outside of the academy, telling him in detail what it was like to go to school, go to the park. And he enjoyed every little detail she had to say.

She was also always there when his father would lock him up in mausoleum.

Growing up, watching each of the siblings go about, helping each other; it did make her sad, but she had Klaus and she learned that was all she needed. Well, with the exception of Ben Hargreeves, who she grew to have a crush on when she was in middle school. Was the boy always flustered with how she talked with him? Of course. But he found her to be a breath of fresh air.

And man did he cry when he realized she could see him after he died.

The Usual. All Credits go to Netflix for The Umbrella Academy. The beginning focuses a lot on the characters relationship with Klaus. This is a Ben story however, Klaus is the only one who can see her when they are children. As stated it's not until middle school that they start to like Ben. It's mentioned that the character does like him through out their childhood, but it's not officially talked about until later chapters.

As always, thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy the book once it comes out!
