It's been almost 3 months since Ms. Owen had casted Estelle and Damon to preform a duet together from The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical as Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset for the Drama Club showcase, and it's now time for the show. As Zander and Karolyn were preforming a piece from Dear Evan Hansen, Estelle was backstage fiddling with the hem of her left sleeve of her Regency Period style dress anxiously until a hand reached to hold hers. Estelle looked to see who it was, only to be face to face with her duet partner, Damon. "You'll do great. If anything, I should be the one stressing right now." He whispered to her, in an attempt to comfort her. She softly giggled before responding. "You'll be fine, Damon. Just remember that Owen said we can't fake the kiss at the end." She reminded.
As their friends hit the last note of their duet and the audience clapped, the lights started to dim and backstage crew and other members helped out with placing Estelle and Damon's props out on stage, Estelle looked at Damon, and gave him a small smile. "Let's do our best, yeah?" She asked. He nodded in response before entering his respective side of the stage.
Estelle took a deep breath as the lights turned back on and started pacing in her space as Damon had entered her side of the stage.
"Daphne, please join me for our honeymoon dinner." Damon had said, giving Estelle a serious look. Estelle scoffed as the music started to play. "This is what you call a honeymoon? Pacing around in our separate rooms," She sung, allowing annoyance to fill her words. "Running from our elaborate ruse, we're doomed!" She exclaimed, causing her poor partner to jump a little.
"Daphne-" Damon said, trying to reason with Estelle, before she cut him off. "Please, forgive me, Your Grace." Estelle sneered as she mocked a curtsy at Damon. "'Your Grace'?" He asked, offended at her mockery. "Can't even look me in my face, and now I must lie in the mess you made!" She sung, letting sadness lilt along in her voice for the slightest moment as Damon sung, "The mess we made." as a way to correct her, as she started to walk away.
Estelle stopped in her tracks and glared at him. "It was your mistake," She said angrily. "You kissed me in the maze!" She sung, raising her voice an octave and pointing an accusing finger at Damon. "I was prepared to take my life that day." He sung, trying to explain. "I stole your fate." Estelle said, turning away from Damon once more. "I stole your fate." Damon corrected, causing her to turn to face him again. "I stole your fate." She argued, as she watched Damon's facial expression morph from a calm face into an annoyed one. "No, I stole your fate!" He yelled, causing the entire theater to quiet.
"I don't understand." Estelle said, shaking her head in confusion. Damon sighed. "And now you're forced to love a man you hate." He sung sadly, sitting down on the sofa facing the audience and buried his head into his hands. "Simon-" Estelle said guiltily, as she sat down next to him and placed a comforting hand on his arm. Damon lightly grasped both of her hands in a loving manner and looked at her. "I know you don't feel the same, but I burn for you." He confessed, successfully holding the riff note on the word burn, making Estelle internally cheer for Damon.
"You burn for me?" Estelle sung in a soft surprise at the confession, as Damon nodded. "I burn," He sung rising from the couch and looked at her with a small smile, extending a hand to her. "I burn," Estelle echoed, taking Damon's hand with a growing smile on her face as she also rose from the couch. "I burn," Damon jokingly mocked, lightly grabbing Estelle's waist, pulling her close to his body. "I burn," Estelle sung, her face flushed and turned her face away from him, slightly embarrassed, since they never practiced this during rehearsals.
"I," Damon sung, placing a hand under Estelle's chin and turning her head so she is facing him. "Burn for you." They sung harmoniously, before Estelle lightly pulled away from Damon's grasp. "I burn, you burn," Estelle stuttered, before composing herself and looked up at Damon. "You burn for me?" She sung, holding the last note; as she heard Karolyn, Kimi, and Faie cheering from the wings. Damon nodded, as they both sat back down on the couch.
"How do you feel? He asked, his voice soft. "I feel wonderful." Estelle admitted with a smile. Damon turned his body to face hers on the couch. "From the mornings you ease, to the evenings you quiet," Damon sung softly, as if he was singing to her and her alone; due to the amount of softness and passion in his voice. "I'm always thinking of you." He looked at Estelle, almost expectantly. " I'm always dreaming of you." Estelle confessed shyly. She saw Damon's eyes widen in shock. "From the mornings to late in the night, it is you I cannot sacrifice." She said, with a blush dusting her cheeks.
"Sacrifice?" He questioned her. Estelle looked at him "Look me in," and as he looked at her, they simultaneously sung "My eyes, I burn for you." beautifully, both teenagers holding the note, gaining cheers from their friends that were watching from the wings.
"I burn for you." Estelle sung, secretly hoping he caught the message in her voice. "I burn," He sung, looking into her eyes. "I burn," Estelle repeated, subconsciously scooting closer to Damon on the couch. She met Damon's gaze as they both sung, "I burn for you." Damon broke the eye contact, a blush prominent of his face. "I burn, I burn," He stammered, but immediately cooled down when Estelle held both of his hands in her own.
"Say my name, say I'm yours. Promise we'll never be oceans apart!" They smiled at each other before continuing. "'Cause I burn for you." They sung together. "I burn for you." Damon sung, scooting himself across the couch to be closer to Estelle, as she sung, "I burn." "I burn," He softly sung, passion filling his voice. "You burn," Estelle sung, humor lightly lacing her words. "For me." They sung together for the last time.
"I'm yours, Daphne. I've always been yours." Damon said, looking at Estelle with all the seriousness he could muster. Estelle lightly blushed as she spoke. "And I'm yours." She responded, with the same amount of seriousness in her voice. The two teens leaned into each other, Estelle's hand running up Damon's arm and Damon held her body close to his as they kissed. As for who kissed who first, no one really knows. Not even the teenagers themselves.
Once the two were backstage, Estelle headed to enter the girl's changing room to change for her next piece, when Damon grabbed her wrist. "What's wrong, amor?" She asked, concerned at her friend's behavior. He looked at her as he pulled her into a hug and whispered into her ear, "I wasn't acting when I said that I burn for you, Estelle."
She smiled and whispered back to him, "Neither was I."
