Cypher huffed, "If you want to know my secrets, Sova," he started, "you'll have to be the one paying my tab, I'm not saying anything unless I'm blackout drunk,"

"Well, let us make it a challenge, then," Sova said, gesturing for the bartender to pour them shots. Cypher sighed, grabbing his, before lifting his mask a bit, just enough to reveal his mouth.

Sova grunted, "Still won't show your face?"

Cypher hummed, "No fun in just taking it off," and with a quick glare from the hunter, they downed their drinks.

Sova could see the other man make a slight smile, before gesturing for the bartender to pour another.

They continued downing the shots, Cypher could feel the alcohol's toll. Sova seemed fine, but Cypher had a feeling he was starting to feel it too. Years of discovering people's secrets, years of learning when to make guesses, he'd gotten good at it.

A few shots later and Cypher was starting to notice the other man's face begin to turn red, he would try to hold his alcohol. This could be fun.

Cypher faked a hiccup, and noticed Sova smile slyly. Glancing around he noticed the bar was almost empty. Perfect.

Cypher let out a long dramatic sigh, leaning onto his arm. He was willing to give up his secrets to mess with the hunter, and he was hoping to get him to a point where he wouldn't even remember.

Sova watched as the secretive man slowly became more drunk, perfect, he would get Cypher to tell him all his deepest darkest secrets.

Cypher sighed, and Sova knew the time was now. "So what was life like before you joined the protocol?"

The man sipped on his drink, when had they ordered glasses?

"It was normal," he started, "I was an information broker, what about you?"

"Everyone knows, I was a hunter," Sova took a swig from his own drink, "what about outside of work?"

"I had a wife, and a child," Cypher's face darkened, "did you have any family?"

Sova shook his head, "No, where's your family now?"

Cypher tensed, "They...They're no longer with us..."

Shit.

"Oh, I am...Sorry for your loss, Cypher," Sova placed a hand on the other's shoulder reassuringly.

"It's...alright, it's been a while... I think I've moved on, at least as much as I think I ever will," he put his head in his hands, Sova did not mean to hit any sore spots, "it's just... How do you ever get over that? You know?"

"I don't think you ever can," Sova said, "however, coming to terms with it is important,"

"I suppose... sometimes I remember her face, and it just," Cypher turned to Sova, "it feels like she's still here, god I miss her so much,"

"You are strong, Cypher," Sova began, patting Cypher's shoulder a bit, "you will get past it,"

Cypher hadn't meant to think about it too much. He just wanted to mention it quick, make Sova feel bad, and move on. But whenever he thought about them, he always got stuck. He'd think about what he could've done, the precautions he could have taken. The thoughts would stick with him anywhere from hours to weeks, and he was practically useless whenever the depressive episodes happened.
