Just a Day

Sometimes it feels like breathing in this world takes more effort than living in it. Because everytime I suck in a breath all I can feel is the thick black air we need to live, the same thick black air that holds all the hurtful comments said. Needless to say I didn't get to talk to Abigail, and I didn't get a nice breezy day. I walked into a conversation of my "friends" talking about me. I realized that I completely suck at math, and my limited social skills got put to the test.

I had paced myself while walking to seventh period, I was going to dance. Ya I know my school is weird for offering dance, and I'm even weirder for taking it. But it's cool. I like the way it feels to lift a girl off their feet. The way the muscles are so drained afterwards. I quickly changed and entered the studio.

"Mr. Grayson, your 40 seconds late, and you don't even have your shoes on," wretched my teacher, Mrs. LaVetё.

"Sorry Mrs. LaVetё, I was warming my ankles." I tried my hardest to come up with a better excuse, but this one just came out.

The whole class period was just turns, and going over our solos for the showcase. See the showcase is when all the little "ballerina's" get to see if they are good enough to go to an advanced school, and since I am one in four of the guys that take dance I have to work harder than any of the girls. Five of them get picked out of 15, and one of us guys gets picked. It's a sucky battle for me because us ballet dudes have especially close, but all good things fall apart. I ran through mine fixing my attitude turns, but when I finished all I feel like I got was an ear full about how I need to be putting in more studio hours if I even want to feel like I have a chance. This completed my day to the maximum, showing me that one good thing happening can't possibly lead to another happening.

I quickly ran to my locker to grab my board and hurried to the front doors. Pushing with my legs as I skated down off the hell zone called school grounds. I was the only one in Merryweather who liked to skate, the only person in this whole damn town. That's when I saw a girl skating, well I didn't really see her, she kinda flew by me. Causing a blur of pure ripped skinny jeans, vans, and a flannel. Abigail. In one swift motion I kicked my foot back pushing of the hard ground, and rocketing off after her. I had to admit she was good for a girl, and her board wasn't that bad either. She seemily was perfect, but too fast, so i subsided to calling her name. After taking a lot of screaming she pulled the hidden headphones out of her ears, and slowed to a stop. She had a smirk on her face, and it seemed like she knew exactly what i was thinking. But god, she was beautiful.

"Stalker much? I don't even know your name and I  have seen you more today than I would have seen a rainbow in seattle in one day," she said in her voice of pure sarcastic tones.

"Oh but I know yours, Abigail."

" Abigail Grace Monteaith, that's my name. Now what's yours stalker?"

"Noah, Noah Grayson Lee. And it's not a crime to stalk a cool girl."

"Oh so now I'm cool?"

"I never said you weren't. And nice board Abigail, surprised someone rides around here"

"Yours isn't too bad either. I have to go, see you later stalker."

And I watched her skate off, her stick straight hair flowing behind her in wild motions.

I stepped into the front door of my house, a sudden rush of cascading delicious smells filled my nose. I followed the smells, like a bloodhound to the kitchen where my mother was busy at work. Her fingers fiddling to open another spice that would be sacrificed to our diner. I loved watching my mom cook, the way her stern face would stay plastered to the same idea until she knows its done to the best quality. One time she didn't like the way her potatoes smelled she threw out a whole pot. I guess the interesting part is seeing how passionate she is for something. I have never found a true passion like my mom has cooking.

"Mom I'm home," I spoke softly trying not to scare her. But my attempt failed and she whipped around her eyes bulging from her sunken in sockets."Sweetheart you nearly gave me a heart attack!"

"Sorry. What's with the diner though?"

"A family just moved in across the street and I invited them to diner. They have a daughter your age"

"Do you know her name?"

"Noah Lee, they just moved in and you already want to date their daughter."

"No mom, ha. I just wanted to know because i might have met her at school today"

"Well was she new at school?""She said she wasn't, maybe she just didn't want to be left out."

"Alright sweetie, you should go shower and get something nice on while I finish up here"

I stumbled up the stairs with my heavy backpack weighing me down, and shuffled into my messy room. There were clothes sprung everywhere, like thoughts in my mind. I decided to take a quicker shower. I turned the old knobs in small increments waiting for the temperature that satisfied my likings. The warm water pouring down my back sending chills down my spine was an overwhelming feeling that I adored. I decided on a nice shirt covered in thick stripes in maroon, with a lighter charcoal grey, the same kind that you see in the ashes after a fire finishes burning down something that was once strong and sturdy. With maroon skinny jeans, and leather shoes. I figured mom would've been cooking by now and maybe I could catch a sample. As I walked down the stairs mom approached me with a flustered look.

"They are here. What if they don't like my cooking? What if they ask about your fa-"

"It's going to be fine, I'll get the door you stand behind me."

I paced myself over to the door, touching the cold silver, turning the knob, and getting greeted by just what my day needed to be even better.
