The song "Hotel California" was recorded back in 1976, and was released as a single on an album of the same name on February 22nd, 1977. Don Felder composed the music of the song, whereas Glen Frey-- the genius that he was-- wrote the lyrics. Firstly, I suggest you take a listen to the song before you read on-- or maybe listen to it as you read this-- because you'll need the knowledge of the song before you read these next couple of Infologues.
If you have read the 3 chapters of this book, you may have noticed that most of the paragraphs were numbered; The first chapter had the letter A, and a number next to it. For example: A1.) A2.) A3.) and so on. The second chapter had the letter B, and the third had the letter C. You might have wondered what that meant, and I'd be glad to tell you; Those numbers were for the sole purpose of helping identify where each paragraph that lines up with the lyrics of the song starts and ends.
Here, I'll explain with the list of what each line was that was pulled apart with a descriptive paragraph of the corresponding number:|Para.#| Line of Song |
|A1.) -- |"On a dark desert highway,"
|A2.) -- |"Cool wind in my hair,"
|A3.) -- |"Warm smell of colitas,"
|A4.) -- |"Rising up through the air."
|A5.) -- |"Up ahead in the distance,"
|A6.) -- |"I saw a shimering light."
|A7.) -- |"My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim,"
|A8.) -- |"I had to stop for the night."
|A9.) -- |"There she stood in the doorway,"
|A10.) -- |"I heard the mission bell,"
|A11.) -- |"And I was thinkin' to myself, 'This could be Heaven or this could be Hell,'"
|A12.) -- |"Then she lit up a candle,"
|A13.) -- |"And she showed me the way."
|A14.) -- |"There were voices down the corridor, I thought I heard them say,"
|A15.) -- |"Welcome to the Hotel California, Such a lovely place, Such a lovely place. There's plenty of room at the Hotel California, Any time of year, you can find it here."
|B1.) -- |"Her mind is definitely twisted,"
|B2.) -- |"She got the Mercedes Benz,"
|B3.) -- |"She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys,"
|B4.) -- |"She calls friends."
|B5.) -- |"Oh, how they dance in the courtyard,"
|B6.) -- |"Sweet summer sweat."
|B7.) -- |"Some dance to remember,"
|B8.) -- |"Some dance to forget."
|B9.) -- |"So I called up the Captain,"
|B10.) -- |"'Please bring me my wine,'"
|B11.) -- |"He said, 'We haven't had that spirit here since 1969,'"
|B12.) -- |"And still those voices are calling from far away,"
|B13.) -- |"Wake you up in the middle of the night, just to hear them say,"
|B14.) -- |"Welcome to the Hotel California, such a lovely place, such a lovely place. They livin' it up at the Hotel California, what a nice surprise, bring your Alibis."
|C1.) -- |"Mirrors on the ceiling,"
|C2.) -- |"The pink champagne on ice,"
|C3.) -- |"And she said, 'We are all just prisoners here of our own device.'"
|C4.) -- |"And in the master's chambers,"
|C5.) -- |"They gather for the feast,"
|C6.) -- |"They stab it with their steely knives, but they just can't kill the beast."
|C7.) -- |"The last thing I remember,"
|C8.) -- |"I was running for the door,"
|C9.) -- |"I had to find the passage back to the place I was before."
|C10.) -- |"'Relax,' said the Nightman,"
|C11.) -- |"'We are programmed to recieve,'"
|C12.) -- |"'You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave!'"
Now, if you go back and read each line and keep these lyrics in mind, you'll be able to see where each line fits in. All I did was take each lyric of the song and stretch it out using clever description and adding on extra storyline to make the song a functioning story. There were also two Spanish words; 'Colitas' is Spanish slang for 'Marijuana', and 'Alibis' is Spanish for 'Friends'. You may notice that some of the paragraphs aren't numbered; That's because I had to make transitions between each chapter--- Or sometimes a paragraph--- to make it smoother and an easy pace, instead of just starting off a line that's a sudden change in story or setting.
I also did some research and looked up theories for the song's vague lyrics, and included some parts of them into this book, but I also provided some aspects that weren't in the theories to fill in some of the spaces. But that is an explanation I will go into in the next chapter; Infologue Part 2: Diving Into The Theories.
