My best friend Jordan Dekker and I, along with my little brother Jake and his girlfriend Bri who both go to South Dakota Dakota State, home of the Bisons, but they came down here for winter break, all went to a sold-out Kohl arena for a basketball home game tonight against the Michigan State Spartans. Before I get more into the game, let me introduce myself first. I'm Alex Showalter, yes, the younger twin sister of the one and only, Zak Showalter, younger by five minutes, and I have curly brown hair that goes down to my waist, and I have icy blue eyes that change to gray, but have super tan skin from being out in the sun a lot as a #15 5'11" sophomore right fullback defender for the Wisconsin Badgers Women's Soccer Team, and in the spring and summer, my brothers and I grew up on the baseball field, soccer field, and volleyball court of Germantown High School, respectively, when basketball season is over, and we always love to eachother's games, since Zak is a catcher and first baseman, Jake is an outside hitter for volleyball, and I am a right fullback defender for soccer, but I'm also an excellent volleyball player as a right hitter myself, and comes volleyball season in the fall, my little brother looked up to me as his role model, teacher, and mentor by watching my games, and comes spring time, I'm a team helper at home games, and I always travel with Jake and his team for away games in other high schools across the state, helping him and his teammates with bumping, spiking, and digging drills along with some other varsity teammates wearing our volleyball tees with pride. We also grew up on the basketball courts of our school during the winter since my brothers were unstoppable point guards, and I an unstoppable shooting guard, but soccer was my true calling and passion for college and beyond. So anyway, flash forward to college, I've been best friends with my brother's best friend's sister Jordan Dekker who is the starting sophomore point guard for the Wisconsin Badgers Women's Basketball team standing at 5'6", and she has long straight brown hair and brown eyes, and is dating my twin brother, while I'm dating her older brother NBA Draft Prospect Small Forward Sam Dekker since us Showalters have been really good family friends with the Dekkers ever since we were all in our diaper and pacifier days. Now, Jordan, Zak, and I are college sophomores, while Sam is a junior, and my kid brother Jake, even though he stands at 6'2" just like Zak, is now a freshman at South Dakota State, and is now dating a beautiful blonde girl named Bri (short for Brianna), who stands at my height , is a setter/right hitter for the South Dakota State Bison Women's Volleyball team, and that's how she, Jordan, and I became best friends. So anyway, on to the game. We stood up for the national anthem sung by our school choir, and the pledge of allegiance, then sat down for tip-off. The game got off to a healthy start by Duje Dukan making a clutch three, but these players are really playing dirty, and are really out for blood on the court by being too foul happy. Instead of us scoring and winning, we had a 70-65 loss, and the players were plagued with fouls and bricks, and two players even had their ankles sprained in the process, which happened to be Josh Gasser and Frank Kaminsky. Poor guys, I hope that they'll be ok. We waited for our boys to be dressed, and decided that we all should have a sleepover at my house for a lazy weekend. Jordan, Bri, and I got our stuff and put on our PJ's for the sleepover in Jordan and I's dorm, while Sam, Zak, and Jake got their stuff for the sleepover and put their PJ's on from their wing of the Chadbourn hall. Zak decided to take the guys to our house in his car while I took the girls in my car. I got to the house in ten minutes flat, and as soon as I walk right through the front door threshold to the house, I can see and smell my dad cooking his signature rib-eye steak, grilling the chicken, and grilling some tilapia and shrimp as well, cutting them up, and my mom prepping the fixings, and cooking the rice and refried beans with bacon for our Friday nigh fajitas dinner from our kitchen. "Mom, dad! We're home and you've got some company!" I called from the living room while we all were watching some sports center. As if on cue, my mom came out of the kitchen with a tray with a pitcher of virgin mojito, and six glasses filled with ice, and called for us to sit in the dining room. She gives us all quick hugs, and kisses Zak, Jake, and I on the cheek, then she sits back down at her spot in the dinner table, and we all were just talking about tonight's loss, and we just had jokes and laughs to make the mood light. My dad comes out of the kitchen with the skillets piled high with meats, and next thing you know, the guys are drooling with the meat looking so good, and us girlfiriends had to close their mouths and wipe their drool from their chins. My mom stands up again, this time bringing out the beans and rice, her signature mango salsa, pico-de-gallo, sour cream, lime slices, shredded mexican style cotija and chihuahua cheeses, and her homemade guacamole that she smashed a generous bowl of herself. Since I was super hungry, I filled my tortilla with both shrimp and chicken to make myself a surf-and-turf taco, and top mine off with cheese, a small drizzle of sour cream, a squeeze of lime, then a generous scoop each of pico-de-gallo and mango salsa, and I gave myself a generous scoop of the yellow Mexican rice my mom cooked on the side, topped with a little bit of the refried beans. Sam and Zak really seemed to like the rib-eye with the guacamole, pico-de-gallo, and the sour cream, and they went kinda crazy with the beans and cheeses with both their fajitas and beans while Jake and his girlfriend really liked the tilapia with the lime, pico-de-gallo, and mango salsa, and cheese, with the rice, and Jordan really liked the shrimp and tilapia together with the same toppings I had, with a generous scoop of both rice and bean. We all had a great dinner, and we all helped my mother get the dishes of the table and done. For dessert, my mom, Jordan, Bri, and I decided to make cookies-and-cream churros for us and the guys. My dad and the guys were watching some NBA Friday with the Milwaukee Bucks playing against the Chicago Bulls at an away game in the United Center. We all prepped our ingredients as followed; 20 Oreo Cookies, 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of butter, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1 cup of flour, 1 & 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon, 2 eggs, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream, and we filled a large frying pan with oil for frying up the churros. Jordan and I carefully separated the Oreo cookies, scraping off the yummy white fillIng off into a bowl, then set it aside for later. We then put the Oreo cookies into a food processor and pulsed them until they turned into fine crumbles. My mom then put the water, brown sugar, and salt to a boil in a heavy-bottomed sauce pan on the stove. Bri prepped a mixing bowl, then she put in the flour, 2 tablespoons of Oreo cookie crumbles, and the cinnamon. Once the water mixture came to a boil, my mom carefully walked over to Bri who had the mixing bowl on the counter. She poured the mixture into the flour, then we took turns mixIng the two together until it cooled, then added in the eggs and vanilla extract, and mixed until a dough formed. We then took turns piping the dough onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper, making a dozen large churros, then freezed the dough up for ten minute, then heated the oil to a good 350 degrees Fahrenheit, then Jordan and I prepped a baking sheet lined with paper towels, then prepped a mixture of the granulated sugar and the remaing Oreo cookie crumbles. We quickly fried the churros up, transferred them to the baking sheets, then rolled them into the sugar mixture while they were still piping hot and fresh out of the frying pan. We prepped the Oreo whipped cream, put it into a small bowl, then served it up to the guys, and we all played Madden 2K15 with Sam and I playing as the New England Patriots, Jordan and Zach playing as the Green Bay Packers, and Bri and Jake playing as the Seattle Seahawks, having the churros as our game-time snacks. After the game, with Jordan and Zak beating us by four, we decided to watch the movie Red Dawn, and we passed out on our boyfriend's chests or shoulders, my mom turning off the TV, and putting warm blankets on us, ready for a lazy Saturday the next morning.
