Callon pointed his wand at the paper and mouthed the words: "Luminos." Suddenly, he lifted the card up, as it levitated in the air. "You'll need this more." He handed it to Cameron. Cameron held it close to his face, and read it. There was something written on it. "The wizard has only seen his power once before." 'What does that mean?' Cameron thought. "Now, the trick is to remember all that you've learned. Don't focus on anything else but what is written in front of you. Try to memorize every word." Cameron nodded. He started to read it aloud:
"The wizard sees his magic,
The dragon is gone.
There is no place for fear,
No place to hide..."
Suddenly a huge flash of light filled the room. As Cameron shut his eyes and waited for the blinding light to dissipate, he could hear a voice whispering, "The dragon has been defeated." After a minute or two, everything cleared. Cameron could still feel the pain in his legs. But at least, he was able to stand and walk normally again. "You did it Caberoni pizza!" Callon shouted. "Did what?" Cameron asked. "You casted a luck spell perfectly! It foretells the future and gives you luck!" Callon exclaimed. Cameron had no idea why he was so excited. Just then, there was roaring outside the door. Cameron looked outside to see a dragon. "What is it?" Callon asked. He rushed for the window. "Oh no, that's what it meant." "What? Meant what? The luck spell?" Cameron asked. "No no no no no no no!" Callon said frantically. "He's not ready yet!" He shouted. "Callon, are you ok?" Cameron asked, but it was too late. Callon had fainted on the floor. Cameron sucked in his breath, grabbed his wand, and went outside. The dragon had burned down 3 trees with its breath. It froze, sniffing the air. Cameron stood there. If the dragon caught his scent, he would be dead. The dragon turned to face him. Its skin was like pottery. Silvery smooth but hard and dense, like a shell. Its thick, leathery armor jiggled as it ascended. It roared at Cameron, as if challenging him to a fight. Cameron whipped out his wand. He didn't know what made him say it but, "inmagnia!" He shouted. A stream of grey light lashed out at the dragon. It roared, then flopped to the ground, writhing in pain. Then Cameron said another incantation: "Combardia umaxiam!" The dragon had gotten up, but as soon as the words left Cameron's mouth, the dragon fell to the floor, dead. Shaking, Cameron went inside Callons cave. He shook him awake. "Ah what happened!" Callon shouted. Cameron explained every single detail. When he finished, Callon apologized. "I'm sorry, it's just, I'm not the bravest goblin." "It's fine, it happens," Cameron replied. "Still, that's the first time that I've done that spell with someone!" "Well, it works. You were lucky, you saved our lives. We should go and save yours too. Come on, we'll go to the border between the two territories and get you some clothes." Callon nodded and they walked outside. Cameron quickly ran over and picked up his bag before the two headed into the forest. They followed the map from their first trip to the border, until they reached the edge of the mountain range. As they came closer to the border, Cameron started to wonder if maybe they shouldn't stay near the border. Maybe he should have stayed at the cave and rest. those spells has really worn him out. Then a loud explosion ripped through the night sky, and Cameron heard screaming and crying. "What was that?" Callon asked. They both ducked behind a bush. Another explosion ripped through the air. "What kind of dragon is attacking goblins right at night?" Callon wondered. Then the screams sounded again, and this time, they weren't coming from the direction of the border. Cameron looked around. What could they be doing? He saw smoke in the distance. Could it be fires in the mountains? That might be where the dragons were attacking the goblins. But the goblins wouldn't have a fire burning so close to the border. "Let's go," Callon said. He ran ahead and Cameron hurried after him. When they were far enough away, Callon stopped. "Is that the dragon?" Cameron asked. "Yeah. I can smell it now." "Why would dragons attack goblins then?" "Don't ask me, I've never been here. Why don't you run ahead of me and see what's going on? I'll keep an eye out for anyone else who needs help." "Ok," Cameron answered. Cameron ran off.
"Good luck Cameron!"
Cameron ran into the forest and found a clearing. When he spotted three people fighting a dragon, he decided that he couldn't stay and wait for a rescue party. Instead, he used his magic to transform himself into his cat form and ran off. He heard the roar of the dragon, and he knew that he needed to distract it and get away. So, Cameron started running in circles trying to keep it distracted. Unfortunately, it was no use. The dragon was much quicker than he expected, and it had already spotted him. The dragon raised its clawed arm high into the air, preparing to throw its deadly weapon at Cameron. The claws were glowing a bright blue, even in the dim moonlight. "NO!" Callon screamed as he watched from afar, as Cameron disappeared, engulfed by the blue flames that shot up into the black sky.
Callon took a step toward Cameron, when the dragon fired its weapon and hit him square in the chest. Callon fell to the ground, unconscious. "Callon. Callon!" Cameron called, running to Callon and shaking his friend. Nothing seemed to be working. Finally, Cameron remembered the fortune card. He flipped it open. The words "the wizard has only seen his power twice before" were inscribed on one side. On the other side, there was a picture of a large, gray, snake with glowing purple eyes and a white diamond shaped mouth. The words underneath were different: "the dragon is trapped in amber. It can't escape, because the glass keeps it there. If the crystal breaks it will fall, and the dragon will die. Do not give up hope, but do not destroy the glass either." Cameron looked at the card closely. "It doesn't make sense. How could a crystal trap the dragon?" The sound of a gun firing broke Cameron's thoughts. The dragon flew up into the air as an arrow penetrated his body. He plummeted to earth. "That's my cue," Cameron whispered. He ran forward and jumped to the top of the creature's head. He landed squarely on its back. He put his hands around its neck, and started to tighten his grip. He could feel the dragon struggling against his hold. The dragon opened its mouth and released a massive blast of red hot flame, which scorched the ground and singed the leaves of the tree branches above.
Cameron closed his eyes and squeezed harder. He could almost feel himself slipping. He felt the muscles tighten up in his arms. The dragon flapped its wings, lifting itself off the ground. But it didn't fly far; the dragon had nowhere to go. It slammed down onto the forest floor. Cameron rolled off of the dragon's back. Quickly, he got up. He looked around frantically to see if the other creatures had escaped. He didn't think so. In the distance he could see the dragon being dragged away. The dragon continued to writhe and thrash, helplessly. Cameron smiled. He hoped the others would find them. "Cameron! Cameron!" He turned around to see Callon running towards him. "You did it again!" Callon exclaimed. "I need some rest," Cameron said wearily. "Then let's go then." Callon snapped his fingers and they were back in the cave.
