My serve!" Anne shouted across the court. She tossed the green ball she had in her hand up and swatted it with her racket with great force, sending it flying to the other side of the court where Sasha sat, her stance widened with her own racket at the ready.

The ball was moving so quickly, it was almost impossible to follow it. Sasha seemed able to though, and she positioned herself to be able to hit it at a good angle, wound up, and hit the ball with such force that I thought the racket could break.

The ball shot to the other side of the net, flew past Anne's head before she could even react, and hit the bleachers behind her.

nne sighed and dropped her racket, and then gave a breathy laugh. "Sasha, dude. The power is good and all, but if you can't hit it with power and not hit it out of bounds, maybe it would be better to focus on your technique."

Sasha simply grunted in response and reached for her water bottle, taking a long sip of it. These two had been sparring for a while, and Sasha simply couldn't stop hitting it out of bounds practically every serve. Anne was trying her best to help with it, but it was maybe one in every three serves that it actually got past the first hit.

I had been watching them for a while and keeping score for them, and despite the fact that I've never played tennis in my life, it looked like a lot of fun. Plus, being able to have Anne as my sparring partner would mean I wouldn't have to worry about embarrassing myself.

"Um, hey guys? Do you think I could spar with Anne next? It looks like a lot of fun."

Anne had a hint of a smirk on her face after I asked, and she turned to reply, "No offense dude, but you're not exactly the athletic type. And besides, tennis is a lot more complicated than it looks, it might be frustrating for you to learn it all at once against someone who's so much better than you."

Sasha laughed at Anne's reply, and I felt my cheeks begin to burn. So much for not embarrassing myself... After Sasha stopped laughing, nobody said a word. Anne looked at Sasha, and then at me, with a blank stare on her face. I coughed to fill the silence and said, "Um... 15-Love."

I flew towards the small pink frog at breakneck speed, although for me it seemed to go in slow motion. Sprig only sat there, shock still on his face from the events transpiring in front of him.

He had every right to be shocked, his best friend's arm just got lobbed off after defeating an evil tyrant, it was quite the juxtaposition compared to her earlier victory. Because of this, the frog made no move to dodge as I approached closer and closer, scythe raised above my head.

I felt my soul burning, as I tried to stop my body from moving towards the frog, but every one of my limbs ignored me and followed the will of The Core.

Sprig looked up at me with a pleading look on his face, but no obvious intent to make a move to dodge or counter-attack. Seeing this broke my heart, knowing that he saw what happened to Anne, and he knew that he wouldn't be able to fight back, even if he had tried.

I heard Sasha still retching behind me, which surprised me slightly, considering how much combat she had been exposed to up until now. It was almost pathetic, the fact that such simple gore could ruin her so badly, she obviously didn't have the blood of a true warrior.
