Clatter
All I can hear is clatter.
My eyes shoot open, being awoken by the loud thuds coming from another portion of my small flat. It was pitch black in my room, the time being in the early hours of the morning, and way too early for me to be awake. Softly groaning, I kick my legs over the side of my bed and stand up from it's sweet warmth and comfort. Stumbling a bit, I quickly walk out of my room, wincing when I open my door as the lights from outside of my room came in contact with my eyes.
I shuffle down the hall, making my way to the flats main room, which held the living and dining area as well as the kitchen and the source of the loud noise.
I hesitantly stop at the end of the hall, subconsciously biting my lip.
What if there's a murderer in there? Or worse, what if Joey brought a girl home and they're fucking in there?!? The thought or my big brother having sex in there made me nauseous.
My eyes flicker around the hall until they fall upon a field hockey stick. I pick it up, firmly gripping it, before continuing on into the next room.
Either way it goes, this noise is gonna end now! I need to go to work later. I think as I enter.
My flat wasn't incredibly massive, being that I share it with my older brother and we were both students attending uni. Our parents paid for a good portion of our living expenses, but they still expected us to pay for some of our bills, which was why I was forced to work part time at a mediocre coffee shop in an unfavorable part of the city.
The main room of my flat was obviously the largest, with a sky high ceiling and quite a lot of room. The walls were colored a deep midnight blue, and adorned with different types of artwork ranging from a kids at play street sign to a mural of the New York city skyline. The living area was situated on the back wall farthest from my flats entrance and was also in a lowered part of the room, with a step between it's floor and the regular floor separating the areas. It held a chocolate brown three seat sofa, as well as a matching love seat and an non matching black leather recliner, which Joey seemed to have some crazed man claim over. The seats were in a semi circle around a small wooden coffee table, holding an assortment of my fashion magazines and Joey's playboy magazines, as well a week old pizza box. This whole set up was settled in front of a large entertainment system, and next to a ping pong table which was used more for beer pong during Joey and I's raging uni parties and less for actual ping pong.
In the corner of the living area stood a small metal spiral staircase that led to a loft type area. Really it was somewhat like a deck or a half floor, which was placed in between the main floor and the ceiling, and someone could overlook the kitchen and dining area as well as the entrance while up there. There was only a couple bean bags up there, as well as a long bench alongside the wall, some textbooks, a mini fridge and most likely an assortment of plastic cups, being that Joey and I haven't had the chance to clean up this shit hole since our end of semester kickback last weekend. “The cave” as we called it was only really used during parties and kickbacks for people that just wanted to drink and make out, like a stress free zone. Occasionally me or Joey would actually go up there to study, but most of the time it would be me.
Back downstairs, the remainder of the main room held the dining area and the kitchen. The dining area sat to the left of my lofts dark brown entrance door. It was quite simple, holding a midsized black wooden table with a glass surface, and six leather dining chairs that surrounded it. The area was rarely used, other than during times when people would play drinking games or when we'd have family over to have a proper dinner.
