Part 1, Chapter 3: Beta Returns

We got off the plane and brought home the truck. They had Beta in the far back, in one of the animal carriers. We were out in a field as we let Beta go free. After a few chirps from her, Blue appeared. "I told you I keep a promise," I said to her as she celebrated having her baby back. "Thank you!" She came over and rubbed her head against mine. Beta did the same to my leg. "Why not come with us?" I thought over the offer as I looked back at Maisie. "Nows that time to live to your promise," Owen told Maisie. "I wish I could, but Maisie needs me. You can come visit any time!" We rubbed heads again as the two darted off. "Why not go with them Alpha?" Maisie asked me. "I guess that goes to show what a strong bond with a dinosaur can do," Claire said. I walked up to Maisie, taking my arms and giving her what they called a hug. She hugged me back. "It really does," Owen said, replying to what Claire had said.

Maisie had got on my back as we went back home. The second we got there, Owen called out to Maisie. "We might want to get that thing put on him," he said. Maisie got off my back and went inside. When she came back out, she held something out to me. I sniffed it as she put it around my neck. It was red with black spikes and a small tag on it that read "Et Alphanite." "It's your full name," Maisie said. I felt something being put on my tail. It was a clasp on the same color with four rings, all shaped to hug the sharp edges of my tail so I can still fight with it. "This way you're easier to spot and poachers know that you're someone's and not to shoot you, even though they probably will either way." "Don't say that!" Maisie hugged me. "He will stay alive for as long as I'm here with him." Maisie mounted me and I turned so she could see her parents. "I'm off to town. I'll be back before dinner!" She pat my neck as I took off. Over the bridge is the lumber lodge. "Let's check the lumber lodge for any holdups." She steered me past animals and large obstacles as we made it to the lumber lodge. Turns out, there was a bit of a Therizinosaurus problem. Maisie got down as I walked up to it. "Where am I?!" She said. She sounded a bit freaked out. "You're in a place you shouldn't be," I said. "I can help you back to the forest, don't worry." I took one of her claws as I carefully led her to the forest. "Keep going forward and you should make it back home!" "Thank you so much!" She walked off as I made my way back to Maisie. "That's one hell of a dinosaur you've got there Ms. Lockwood," one of the guys said. "Alpha is the best dinosaur I could ever ask for!" I trilled.

I heard screams from behind me and a dinosaur scream. When it showed itself, we were all surprised to see it was a Pyrotaptor. How did it end up here? I screamed at it and it wouldn't stand down. We had our gazes fixed on one another as it charged me. We started to attack one another, for protecting and for food. Maisie moved everyone out of the lodge in case I was unable to defeat the Pyroraptor. I had the upper hand since it's feathers caused it to overheat. Once it finally overheated, I was able to scare it off as everyone came back to the lodge. "That's how you show them Alpha!" Maisie said, coming over to me and petting me. I had quite a few scratches on me, but I would manage. I was mounted and steered out of the lodge and towards the city.

Once we made it, everyone backed up and started to whisper about me. "That's the dino from the video..." one person said. Maisie heard and steered me to them. "What video?" She asked them. They started started tapping on their device as they showed us the video of me leading Owen and Claire down the streets. Maisie just led me away from them without saying anything. She didn't want to be reminded of that day. "What should we do Alpha?" I trilled in response. "We could take you for a swim in the ocean by the Mosasaurus' old enclosure here?" I trilled again. "Alright, let's do that!" She steered me around people to the old enclosure. It was closed and any unauthorized entering is prohibited. However, I was an exception due to me being carnivorous.

We make it as Maisie gets off my back and we enter the area. "Have fun Alpha!" She told me as I dived into the water." This was really relaxing. I stayed near the waters surface in case Maisie was in danger.

We were undiscovered for about an hour before someone showed up. "Hey kid!" He called to Maisie. "You know this isn't a playground right?" "Yeah I'm here with-" "You need to leave immediately." He cut her off and got on my nerves. When he grabbed her arm, I climbed out of the water and stood behind Maisie. I started growling as the man took Maisie and ran. I suppose he was trying to protect her from me. When I got close enough, I jumped onto the man as he let Maisie go. "Thanks Alpha." I trilled at her. "Aren't you gonna help me?!" Maisie thought. "Alpha, off." I did as she said and got off the man. "What the hell.." I snarled at him as a warning as he got up and left. "Good job Alpha! You want to swim longer or head home?" I made a few noises to let her know I wanted to go home. When she mounted me, we left the area and proceeded home. But of course, what's a town without black market listers? "Hey kid," a girl in all black said to Maisie. "That's a fine lookin' Velociraptor you've got, how much for it?" Maisie put her hand on my neck. "He isn't for sale," she said. "I'll give you one thousand." She came closer to me as I growled. "Alpha, home!" I did as Maisie asked. I screamed at the lady and ran home with Maisie.

When we arrived, I could practically smell trouble cooking. Of course, I was right. A Therizinosaurus walked out as I rushed Maisie inside. I thought she was familiar, but Challah was back at the Biosyn sanctuary. "Your scent is familiar," she said. "Alpha?" I perked up. "Challah?" I asked. "So it is you, Alpha!" She leaned down to me as we rubbed faces as a greeting. "Weren't you at the Biosyn Sanctuary?" "I was, but the humans returned us all to the wild. I was able to find my family, but they aren't with me right now." "That's good! Do you need help being guided back to the other side of the forest?" "If you don't mind." She leaned back up as I carefully took her claw in my mouth led her to the other side of the forest. "Watch your step, it goes downhill here. Otherwise you're in the clear!" "Thank you Alpha! I will bring my family soon to visit!" I chirped her a farewell as she left. "Aww aren't you just the sweetest!" I recognized that voice. I turned to see Thriver and her pack. "Once I heard we were back home, I just had to come find you cutie!" She said to me, coming up to me and getting really close to me. "Back up lady!" I looked over to see Blue and Beta. What was happening?! "And who may you be?" Thriver hissed at Blue. "I just so happen to be his mate, so I would suggest you pack it up and leave!" Mate? We weren't mates. "Tch. Fine. But this isn't over! I always get what I want!" Thriver and her pack ran off into the forest. "You're welcome, by the way." I looked at Blue. "You told her we were mates, why did you lie?" I was genuinely confused. "You seemed uncomfortable and that was the only way I could get her off you without getting hurt." I sighed. "Thank you." "Just repaying the favor. You brought me Beta, I saved you from some weird chick." We rubbed faces as Blue and Beta ran off into the forest towards their home. Once all other dinosaur scents were gone, I trilled to my family. Maisie and Owen came out of the house. "If Biosyn released those," Owen began. "We may be in some serious danger, especially Alpha." They returned inside as I went to the stall. Owen's right, I could be in danger.
