Oliver POV
We were just walked down the beach in silence.
'So...'
Asahi raised an eyebrow, signalling he was listening.
'Why did you come to America?'
I was just trying to make a conversation, but Asahi tensed up.
'Sono koto wa hanashitakunai. (I don't want to talk about it/that.)'
I looked at him, confused. 'Okay? But seriously, why would you come all the way to America? Did your parents had to move for their jobs?'
I glanced at Asahi. He had stopped walking and was really tensed up, head bent.

'Hey, you good? Is it about your paren-'
'URUSAI! (SHUT UP!)' he shouted, head snapping up, tears in his eyes.
We both flinched. He opened and closed his mouth, like a goldfish.
'Gomenne. (Sorry.)'
He continued walking, brushing past me ever so slightly. I was still in shock. Asahi was usually so calm. I turned around to ran after him. He was running into the sea, ignoring the way his slippers got wet. When the sea came up to his knees, he stopped. I quietly went to stand beside him, and I glanced at his face out of the corners of my eyes. He was staring straight ahead, and a single tear trickled down his cheek. I reached out and slowly wiped it.

His eyes widened at the touch, and he looked at me, turning his head to the side. For a moment our eyes locked. Then I looked away, turning my gaze to the skyline behind the sea. I sensed his head turning to look at the skyline too.
'I'm sorry. I shouldn't have pushed you like that. I understand you don't want to talk about it.'
For a moment he didn't respond. Then he grabbed my hand and entwined our fingers. I felt a blush creeping up my cheeks.
'Arigatō. (Thanks.)'
I looked at him. He was looking back, smiling. This was the first time I'd seen him smile, and damn, that smile... We both looked back along the skyline, just in time to see the sun sinking in the sea.

Asahi POV
Oliver wasn't in the room. Perfect opportunity to change into my pyjamas. I took of my shirt and went another one out of the closet.
'Asahi..?'
I froze. Shit. I looked over my shoulder, to see Oliver staring at my back with a horrified expression on his face. I slowly turned around. His eyes dropped down from my chest to my stomach and his face grew pale. He shook his head.
'Okay, no. We'll talk about.. this.. in the morning.'
With that, he went to sleep. I barely got any sleep that night. His horrified expression haunted me.

That morning, I woke up due a pillow being thrown in my face. I opened my eyes to see Oliver sitting on his bed.
'Clever of you to not shake my shoulder again.'
He rolled his eyes.
'Tell me about.. what I saw last night. That's the reason you won't change in front of others, right?'
I nodded. 'Ask anything, I'll answer. Just don't tell anyone about this.'
He nodded and went to sit beside me.
'Take off your shirt.'
I did as he said. He placed his finger on the small scar on my back.
'How did you get this, and why is it similar to this one?'

He pointed at the small scar on my front, just under my rib cage.
'They're from a bullet. The bullet went in at my front and out at my back. The doctor said I was lucky it went out again, otherwise I might've not made it.'
'And this one?'
He was looking at the most frightening scar, tracing it with his finger. The scar started at my right collarbone and trailed across my front, all the way down to end at my left hip.
'It's from a knife.'
His eyes widened. 'You got cut by a knife, and the knife got dragged down half your body before it got pulled out?!'
I awkwardly scratched the back of my head. 'Yeah, the doctor said I was even luckier than when I got shot. I lost a lot of blood on this one and nearly died.'

His already pale face got even paler. Just then, the teachers called out that the bus arrived and that we were about to leave. Oliver and I took our stuff and he went for the door. I grabbed his arm.
'Don't tell anyone.'
'I won't.'
I smiled at him. For some reason, he made me feel really happy. Almost all the way back home, while Oliver and I were talking, I couldn't really understand why this happy feeling felt familiar, but also different from the other times I had liked someone. Realisation suddenly struck me, and I think Oliver noticed it.

'Are you okay? You look as if you have seen a ghost.'
'Y-Yeah, I'm f-fine.'
He raised an eyebrow but brushed it off. I was still a little shocked. This feeling was a combination of my liking towards Oliver, and the happy feeling I had in the past. Oliver made me feel like she was with me. He made me feel like Elaine was there.
