The two escaped to the nearby Mt. Dafan. Wei Wuxian was actually surprised that Wei Meiyue walked so swiftly. They hadn't even left the village before that cat of hers, Yueguang, caught up with them. By now, they were deep in the mountains, the shady trees only letting slivers of light in.

"Good fella! We've made it so far already! You're the Xiao Pingguo among donkeys!" Wei Wuxian praised the donkey.

"Don't forget who's controlling its temper," Wei Meiyue grumped. The cat on her shoulder meowed in agreement.

"Ah, yes, sorry about that, Yueyue (月月)," Wei Wuxian said, using her old nickname.

"Hmmm," Wei Meiyue muttered, focusing her eyes on the path in front of her. Just then, she noticed something.

"Hey, the path is narrowing!" Wei Wuxian said, noticing too.

As the two of them scanned the forest, a glimmer of light caught on some silver threading strung between the trees. An unnoticed talisman sat at the base of the tree. Just then, another gleam of light caught on a thin thread at the base of the path. Wei Meiyue saw it and immediately jumped back, dragging the donkey's reins with her.

But too late. Xiao Pingguo's front leg hit the thread, and a golden array expanded underneath it. Wei Meiyue jumped back further and Wei Wuxian rolled off the donkey before the net sprang up and trapped Little Apple.

"That's... a Deity-binding Net," Wei Meiyue said as she got up and dusted herself off.

"Indeed, what a find in this wilderness," Wei Wuxian agreed. "Didn't expect to see one. Who's wealthy enough to afford this for a night hunt?"

Deity-binding Nets were traps made to catch anything, including a god, demon, spirit, or monster. Although the threads of the trap were thin, the material found in quality, making them difficult to break. No matter what the catch was, it would take a long while for the prey to struggle out since it could only be broken by an excellent magical tool.

Wei Wuxian picked up the apple that had fallen on the ground and shined it on his shirt. Ignoring the slight reprimand from Wei Meiyue, he took a bite out of it. "Xiao Pingguo," he said slowly. "So what if you're mad at me. That's a Deity-Binding Net. I don't have any magic tools on me, and neither does Meimei. Can't save ya."

Then briefly, the foliage on the left rustled, and Wei Wuxian and Wei Meiyue quickly ducked into the forest. Just then, a person dropped down onto a branch and onto the ground. From the tree they were hiding behind, they heard a loud yell.

"What?! A donkey? 400 nets spent, and not even a single good catch?! Ugh... First I get silly rogue cultivators, and now a stupid donkey?"

The boy had a vermillion mark in between his eyebrows, his features delicate yet sharp. He looked quite young, and carried a bamboo canister of feathered arrows and a luminous sword on his back, holding a longbow in his hand. The embroidery on his clothes formed a magnificent white peony in front of his chest.
