Technoblade Never DiesThe landscape was cold and unforgiving. The ground had been frozen for as long as anyone could remember and was covered in a fresh sheet of pure white snow. A blizzard had raged over the land since it happened. Like the external environment knew it had some sick obligation to reflect the cold desolate feeling within everyone across the land. Or perhaps it was a fitting tribute. That even the earth itself could feel, and felt the same loss as everyone who was residing on it.
Silence.
For days silence had been ruling, there were no birds chirping, no horses whinnying, no bees buzzing, and of course, no speaking.
Miles away in every direction, in every settlement, no one said a word to each other. Passing someone on the street encouraged conversation. An urge to offer some kind of condolence or comforting word. But every time someone opened their mouth and met eyes with the passerby words left them. Their throats went dry, their minds went blank. Their hearts heaved heavily accentuating the emptiness they all felt within.
The expressions they saw in the faces of their friends was the same look they'd seen in the mirror each day since it had happened. The red puffy eyes, dull and glistening with fresh tears and deep seated grief. The mouths that hadn't turned upward in days, the noses rubbed red from tissues.
That look silenced them all, some had the strength to give a single nod while others looked to the ground before carrying on. The effort to remember what they'd been doing was enough to drain them of the energy they'd somehow found getting out of bed that morning.
Despite the silence, the lack of communication, there was a small bit of peace later this day when they all realized how one they were with each other.
The snowy tundra which sat far off from them all, it's own small winter oasis, looked the opposite of the people. It looked peaceful, serene - perhaps those very qualities had been what drew the resident here to begin with. They'd never know for sure.
The sun rose, its rays glistened off the fresh snow and lit up the mountains and forest around the valley for the first time in days. Hours passed. The sun rose higher. And higher. And higher.
Under its light was the cabin. Made of dark brown wood and surrounded by a simple fence. A stone foundation separated the house from the snow and staircases led up to its doors and porches. A few other structures stood near it including an adjoining cabin.
When the sun reached its apex at noon the silence broke for the first time.
Footsteps.
They crunched through the snow, clearly only one set.
Crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch.
They stopped.
For a long moment they stared upward watching the red beacon that shot up toward the sky, a purple one a bit further back. It hadn't been a conscious choice to follow that light, their feet had just carried them there.
They took a deep sigh and thought through what to do next. Carrying on meant running the risk of being overcome with emotion, breaking down and being vulnerable. After another minute of contemplation they knew it was a risk they had to not only take, but succumb to. For their friend. They owed him that much. It would be too selfish and too shameful to put their pride before their friend.
But before they entered the perimeter they reached for their belt. Undoing it they let their weapons fall into the snow, removing the shield from their back they placed it in the small pile along with their armor.
Crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch.
They walked forward moving across the snow and toward the cabin. A small whimpering caught their attention and looking to one of the buildings they saw a pure white wolf peek its head out.
