They found shelter underneath a big tree after escaping from the creatures who wanted to eat them. Will carefully put Francesco down who was bleeding great amounts of blood. Even though they got away with only a few burn marks, all the equipment, food, and maps they had gotten from James, were gone now. They lost all orientation and had no idea what to do.
"How did you know, how to get us out of there," Francesco asked Will.
"It was just a hypothesis, I didn't know if it was going to work or not since I don't fully understand how any of our powers work. This however is an amazing insight into the powers, knowing that they do follow the laws of science-" Will's rambling got cut off with Francesco heavily coughing and spitting out blood.
"We need to do something about this hole in your chest," Lou said.
June rolled her eyes, "I say let him die. Who cares whether he lives or not. If we treat him, he'll just drag us down."
"June," Will said agitated, "it doesn't matter whether you hate him or not. If he dies, all of us will have a way bigger problem than you think. So put your selfishness aside for once and help me find some water."
June wanted to talk back but Lou interfered, "June, just do what he says."
She gave Lou an evil glare, Lou ignored it but knew exactly what the look said. They had an agreement to get rid of the two, this would be the perfect opportunity. But something is telling Lou to not do it. Maybe it was the fact that Will got them out of the whole situation earlier. Maybe it was the fact that all of them just survived a near-death experience together. Or maybe. Hidden deep down. Lou wanted to know the truth. About everything. The past, the present, the future. Maybe she wants to get to know the people that are just like her. Maybe it was just not the right time to kill Francesco.
June walked away quietly cursing. Will tried to move Francesco when he passed out. Lou quickly came to help. They laid him down on the ground and Will ripped his shirt open revealing the giant hole in his shoulder. Will gaged at the sight. Lou pushed him to the side and examined the wound. Due to the fire part of the outside was burnt. Francesco's breathing was decreasing more and more.
"Find something we can use as a bandage," Lou told Will.
"I don't think a bandage," Will turned around, almost puked, and turned his back to them again, "I don't think a bandage can solve this issue. Also, I don't think June is coming back with any water. If the wound gets infected, he-"
"You talk too much. Go get a bandage," Lou said calmly, "You should have enough energy to use your powers, so hurry."
Lou watched the blood flow and soak her knees. She watched Francesco's chest stop moving and the raspy sound of his breathing stop. She felt helpless, panic slowly built up inside her and a wave of sadness. It felt so familiar. This exact feeling. This exact moment. She knew nothing she would do could save him. A tear fell down her cheek. She wasn't sure as to why. She didn't know Francesco, nor did she care about him. Yet seeing him take his last breath felt like she just took hers. The tear fell and landed on his wound.
At that moment a hand placed itself on her shoulder. She looked up and it was a strange man, his face was covered with a white cloak. She couldn't see his face but she could feel he was smiling at her. He didn't say a word but Lou moved aside. He kneeled down next to her, took her hand, and placed it on Francesco's wound. He placed both of his's on top. An intense amount of energy started flowing through Lou, surprised she looked at her hands. She could feel the wound close underneath her palm. Francesco took a deep breath, still with his eyes closed. His heart was beating again.
The strange man removed his hands, got up, and walked away. Lou removed her hand and the wound was closed. There was no scar and even the burn marks were gone.
