"hi y/n! i'm huening kai!"
she looked dead at the man standing in front of her, stunned. with only the first few minutes of the school day, she was shocked at how someone could have so much energy. and on top of that, even more, was she appalled at how he made an effort to talk to her.
huening kai, on the other hand, had used all of his pride and confidence when it came to approaching you. he had done this multiple times, welcoming newcomers to the school and being their guide. he would make it his goal to be someone's first friend on campus.
this "someone" was different, though. he had dealt with many other types of students before, but nobody came close to the stand-offish vibe he got from the girl. it was as if her aura screamed "do not come near me."
so what did he do? get as close as he could to her.
"how do you know my name?"
kai tried to not hide his surprise when he heard her speak. although her vibe seemed intimidating, her voice was as soft as could be. at that moment, he wanted to do nothing but continue the conversation just so he could hear more of her voice. so he could drown in it.
"right, sorry. I'm a part of the welcoming committee. it's like a club to help new students become adjusted to their new school." he said with a light laugh.
y/n's eyes got wide as she felt her heart drop.
although not the same, it was the giggle that she heard come out of soobin's mouth millions of times. the giggle that she would do anything to hear once more.
she remembered the day when they were sitting on the couch of soobin's childhood home. it was one of the first times that they had hung out outside of school, and their relationship was at the stage where the awkwardness was finally leaving.
in the midst of arguing about ice cream flavors, y/n had lifted up her hand to playfully smack him when he continued to insist that mint choco was the best flavor. instead of her hand hitting his chest, he grabbed it before she could land.
silence filled the air as the two stared at each other. their deep breaths and rapid heartbeats were replaced by the light-hearted argument.
y/n took this moment to stare at soobin and fully take in his beauty. her eyes scanned his face as she gawked at how perfect he truly was. the more she looked, she noticed a light blush starting on his cheeks.
"you are the cutest and the most prettiest boy i have ever seen, choi soobin."
he let out his small awkward chuckle as he tried to look away.
"you really do have a way with words, y/n," he started, looking her directly in the eyes. "but i think you are prettier."
with the bittersweet memories of her past suddenly waving over her, y/n hadn't realized that she zoned out and was starting to get teary-eyed at her own thoughts.
she looked up at the boy standing in front of her, finally taking in his full presence.
"sorry, just remembered something," she said bluntly, and she asked the boy more about the tour he would give her in an attempt to change the subject.
"oh right, i'm just going to show you around, walk you to some of your classes, and ask any questions you may have along the way. or if you prefer to just stand in silence, i can do the talking for both of us."
y/n admired how passionate he had seemed, and once again the thought of soobin rang in her mind. he held the same passionate qualities that this new person gave off.
