Hiraeth yawned as she rolled over in her bed, stretching before finally getting up. "Ugh, it's Monday." She groaned as she checked the date and time on her phone. It was currently 7:02 a.m and she was not very happy to wake up this early. "First day of 12th grade huh" she sighed and put her phone down before taking her clothes off. "I better shower so I don't stink on the first day." She sniffed her armpits and grimaced, "Yep, I definitely need to shower." She set an alarm for 7:50 so that she wouldn't spend too long in the shower. School started at 8:30 and it would be a really bad impression to be late on the first day.
Hiraeth got out of the shower at at 7:40 and used her last 10 minutes to brush her teeth and wash her face. When she was in her room again she looked into her mirror and frowned. "I guess I should do my hair and makeup," she thought. After 10 minutes she was done doing her hair and makeup and she smiled to herself. "World record," she thought. She had done a more natural look with blushed red cheeks, highlighter on her inner eye corner, nose, and cheeks, and some dramatic lashes so her face wouldn't feel so bare. She had picked her hair out in a cute little afro and did her edges. She put on the outfit that she had picked out the night before and grabbed her backpack ready to head out the door. She checked the time, 8:00. "Thank god," she said as she sighed in relief. Her school was only a 10 minute walk away so she knew she would make it in time.
She got to school and checked her schedule. Just great, her first period was math. She groaned loudly and it almost seemed as if she was ready to pull her own hair out. She made her way around the building before finally finding her class right before the bell rang. She sighed in relief knowing that she was safe. She walked to the back of the classroom and found a seat there. She decided that that would be her seat for the rest of the semester. "Hey guys, I'm Mrs. Brown and I will be your algebra teacher this year," the teacher started off. The teacher continued to talk but Hiraeth had drowned her out as she saw him walking into the class. He saw her and did a cute little smile that made Hiraeth's heart leap in her chest. "And who may you be Mr.Tardy?" the teacher asked. "I'm Namjoon mam, I'm sorry I'm late, my dad was stuck in traffic," he gave the teacher a shy smile to which she sighed and nodded her head. "Very well then, take a seat wherever is open." Hiraeth had thought Namjoon would sit in the empty seat next to her but he didn't, he sat next to a girl named Aurora and he wrapped his arm around her giving her a tight squeeze. Hireath's heart sunk in her chest as she couldn't do anything but listen to what the teacher was saying to them. "I am going to take attendance now, the seats that you have chosen will be your seats for the rest of the semester so make sure you love them." Hiraeth saw Namjoon look at Aurora look at each other and smile as she frowned. "Whatever, " she thought to herself. The teacher spoke again, "Hiraeth Austin?" "Here," Hiraeth said in a tiny voice. "Hiraeth Austin?" the teacher called again. This time Hiraeth just raised her hand. "Oh you're a quiet one aren't you," the teacher said and for some reason the class burst into laughter like it was the funniest thing on Earth. "Quiet down now class," the teacher said after a while. But it was too late, Hiraeth had already sunken down into her seat as she thought to herself,"What a great start to a shitty year."
