"alright and... it's done!" y/n holds up a heavy cloak, draping all the way down to the floor. the inside is gold silk lined by a design sewn in with navy blue thread. the outside is dark blue, covered in glitter.
"it looks so amazing thank you-" she hands the cloak to her little brother, will byers.
"just make sure you call me to come pick you up alright? no biking home in the dark."
will nods and throws on the cloak, his face grows a huge smile as he hugs his big sister.

y/n taps the back of wills shoulder and pushes him off.
"go! go! you're gonna be late!" she laughs at him.
"oh yeah!" he runs over to put his shoes on, focusing directly on the laces. "thank you again bye!!" he runs out the door.
"bye.." y/n smiles sadly. ever since her brother went missing in '83 she's been worried for him. her mind wanders to all the horrible things that could happen.
"y/n?" joyce calls from behind the kitchen counter, looking down at something.
"yeah mom?"
"i need you to go run some errands, we're out of like everything."
"do i have tooo?" y/n groans.
joyce looks up and smiles. "i'll let you drive my car?"
y/n shrugs and stands up. she walks over to joyce and grabs the keys from her hand. joyce reaches her hand up to her head, ruffling her hair.
"thank you, sweetie."

as y/n drives, she notices signs pointing toward the new mall they put into hawkins a month or two ago.
"i haven't had the chance to go there yet.." y/n speaks to herself.
she follows the signs until she reaches the parking lot, looking up at the mall she feels intimidated by the large scale of the building. it's nothing like the rest of the buildings in hawkins.

as y/n walks around the mall she sees a sign for an ice cream parlor. 'scoops ahoy!' it reads. she heads toward the shop and stands in the back of a very long line. as the line gets shorter, people walk next to her holding huge ice cream cones and sundaes that could feed a family of 4. as she watches people walk by, she has no idea she's next in line.
"um miss?" y/n shoots her eyes over to the counter.
"shit! sorry-" she steps up and looks at the menu. lucky for her she has time since nobody else followed behind her.

"umm.. i'll do one scoop of butter pecan in a waffle cone-"
"okie dokie anything else?"
y/n looks down at the girl taking her order. she's got short reddish hair and a slim face. freckles line her nose and cheeks.
"robin.. right?"
"yeah- oh did the name tag give it away?"
"no no i remember you from band. we were in it together my sophomore year.
"oh right! you're.. y/n-"
"yes!" y/n smiles at the fact that this girl she hasn't spoken to remembers her.
"i used to get made fun of hard core. you know, freshman don't get the best treatment at hawkins high."

suddenly from behind her none other than steve harrington walks out.
"y/n- what a nice surprise." he smiles and walks up to the counter.
y/n's cheeks get red and she smiles at steve.
"hey steve.."
robin rolls her eyes and steps back from the counter. steve glances at the whiteboard robin had made to keep track of his hits and misses with women.
"so what are you doing after this?"
"uh nothing really- i was just walking around the mall and-"
robin slides up my ice cream and walks away to the back.
"why don't we look around together? i go on break in like.. 10 minutes. wait for me?"
y/n nods and smiles again, she can't believe steve harrington is paying attention to her.

she grabs her ice cream and heads to one of the tables. steve walks up behind her as she finishes her cone.
"you ready?" he holds his hand out.
y/n screams on the inside, her cheeks getting warmer and warmer.

they walk around the mall together for a while until steve has to go back to work.
"hey what if one night you came over and we could have a movie date or something?"
"a d-date??"
"yeah. a date." steve smiles.
"i think that would be great.."
"perfect. how about tomorrow? i'll pick you up around 7."
y/n nods. she walks him back to the shop and says her goodbyes to steve one last time.

as she leaves, robin comes up to the counter.
"how'd that one go?"
"we've got a date tomorrow."
robin smiles sadly and marks a tally under the 'you rule' column of the whiteboard.
"you were bound to get one eventually." she sighs.
