I passed the beach. Sweat ran down my face. I have been jogging beside the beach front for half a mile without stopping. I can do more but I don't want to over exert myself. I memorized every turn I make so I won't get lost.

I rest and sat down on the sand under a coconut tree while watching the sun rise. The smell of salt water filled my lungs. I could feel the warmth just by looking at the perfect shade of orange of the sun on the horizon.

I hear people chatting from the distance and several more walking idly by. I looked at my watch and it reads 6:58. I stood and trailed my way back home. It was a Friday, school day. I passed people on their way to school.

I have always wondered what it felt like going to school. Father and I never talked about school. I had all the resources I needed in my old home. Just a minutes' walk and I'd be in the library. Father didn't mind me out early in the morning and getting home late at night. Mostly I'd read about history books.

Even the librarian made a copy of her keys. She was old but I liked her. If there were things I didn't understand, I would ask her and she's nice enough to tell me but sometimes she'd make me run some errands for her or make me compile and sort books, a whole cart of books. There was one time she kept talking about her stories and things she has read about and didn't realize I was already asleep the funny thing is I've already woken up and she still hasn't finished her stories. She was great, like a grandmother every time you visit her there'd be cookies waiting for you to eat a whole plate of them.

Some of the stories contained supernatural events that mortals can't explain, I would ask father. And he'd say it was a Halfling's doing with a little backstory to explain it.

We've been living there all my life. Maybe the reason was that it has one of the best arcane libraries in the world. Arcane libraries are hidden under most of the mortal libraries. The first time was when I was six. Father took me to the library. He laid mortal books on a table and showed them to me. I was fascinated because it has pictures in it. And I was a kid. He went to the arcane library and I busied myself looking at all the images. He told me that he'll be back.

Back then I've been coming back to the library. I basically grew fond of the library. And in addition, father was one of the seven councilmen. I could say I am homeschooled. It wasn't half bad on my side. Father has his ways of teaching me.

After we learned that I was mortal when I turned seven, father wasn't disappointed. He might've been glad. Once you turn into a Halfling at the age of seven. You'll be able to see demons and likewise be able to see you. Demons still roam Earth. Even after knowing I was mortal. He still taught me how to fight. Now that I know I'm not mortal. All those things he taught me aren't wasted.
