Wasteland

Ember walked to the exit of the building, flanked their friends. Remi and miles on either side, Neel and Marcy in front and Amy and Mec behind each and every one of them weaponized and trained over the past few months hidden away underground. Ember spun around and looked at her group as they all gathered by the door.

"We don't know what's going to be out there, the last time we went out was four months ago in the battle of Bristol. We have a word of the Leader that we won't be attacked by their troops but look out, we can't fully trust them yet. When we exit this building get into the car straight away." They said, her eyes falling on every one of her members. "Stay safe" she added. They followed each other into the looming, empty, steel room that echos like a cavern. The doors slammed shut behind them, enclosing them in darkness. A buzz of mechanics start to awake from their slumber, sending of energy signals and growls through the room of people holding their breathe, suspensed to whats going to be on the other side. Gradually the metal panel starts to lift off the ground, creaking with it's age. A slit of light explodes from the expanding line of the outside world forcing everyone to shade their eyes from the harsh sunlight which has been abandoned for months on and. The bigger the gap gets the more light spills over the room, adorning it in white glowing auras and blowing dust in like it's glitter. The panel comes to a stop and they blink, adjusting to the rays of sunshine. All mouths gape open as they see the wasteland in front of them, buildings that once stood higher than sky scrapers crumbled down into withering piles of bricks and stone. Everything creaks and groans it feels like a whisper should knock the whole city down in an instant. It was dreary and dull, the colour sucked out of the once busy streets which now lays here untouched for months, completely deserted by humanity. In the distance the car sits, waiting to deliver them to the head quarters, relatively safe. No-one dares to speak out loud, is this really what this place has come to? Destined to be a ruin forever? It's definitely not how anyone remembers it.

Neel sticks his head out into the opening, scanning the area for any potential dangers but it's deserted completely. He sticks his hand back and beckons the others to follow. Ahead is a long stretch of road, next to presumably used to be a lake but now dried and evapourated into the atmosphere, now subdued to fractured ground and fragile rocks. The tarmac has scores and gaping rifts in it, unmaintained for probably years. It's an eccentric feeling to be the only people in a once famous city that used to house millions. It's eerie but also calming, a break from society. Despite trying to step as gently as possible, dust curls round their legs as it's kicked up from its slumber on the ground, trousers are stained with specs of dust and bits of everything.

After 5 minutes of walking they reach the car. It's key's hang off the wing mirror, making a jingling sound in the mild, dry breeze. Mile's unlatches it from the hinge and it unlocks with a click. Everyone piles into the car and budges into a seat. It's not in amazing condition but it works. Dirt and dust has collected on the windows making it harder to see out of and the fabric of the seats is ripping off slowly, showing its foam insides. Half of the gear sticks are missing and there's many buttons missing bits and bobs. Miles swings into the driver seat ans sticks the key in the ignition hole and the engine splutters into life, like a rattling cough. There's no seat belts, it looks like they've all been ripped off; probably for supplies. The engine shudders and revs as miles pushes the car forwards slowly. It starts off ambling down the road but after a while it kicks in and starts to speed up a bit. It's definitely not a smooth ride, the car swerves every minute to avoid the splits in the road. Every time they hit a pothole a grumble of sorry comes from miles whom is too busy focusing on not crashing them all into a wall.

Half an hour drags by slowly and painfully, in the distance a large spire appears. Sorren sits up and points out the window,

"Look, that's it right there" pointing at the white, monochrome, bland airship becoming more and more detailed each yard they speed by "the entrance should be at the front."

Miles pushes their foot down on the accelerate pedal and they go speeding towards it. It gets closer and closer before she slows down, pressing on the brakes to slowly stop them. A silent breath is drew from everyone in the vehicle. It's massive in there. Everyone gapes at it before stumbling out of the car one by one.

"We're gonna discuss with them, however I doubt they are going to let us all in on the first meeting, perhaps the second but not the first. I will go and speak first. When we get in they will take you're weapons so hide them somewhere. Be careful we don't know their real intentions yet, got it?" Ember said, climbing out the passenger seat and dusting herself off. A silent nod is shared between them all. "Right so uh, let's go up then?" they said, turning to the doors. The group slowly advances towards the door, cautious of whatever or whoever might pop out from somewhere. As they approach the door four guards are standing there in heavy armored uniforms, waiting. Waiting for them.

"Highest seated leader is waiting for you, we will accommodate for your needs but do not try anything sly, i assure you it will not work." A gruff voice says in a heavy accent of intergalactic language. They are briskly escorted into the doors and ushered into an elevator before they can take any of the blank, clean environment in. It shoots up at a disturbing pace, everyone apart from the guards stumbles and clings on to the closest person or thing. It pings at the highest floor and they are swept off their feet again. They are lead to a room labeled "Weapons check" in the native language, all of their weapons get taken apart from the odd tiny ones that were stashed away. It's all too fast to comprehend the rooms they pass, if they got lost in here they could all be stuck forever. Eventually they stop at a crossroad of hallways.

"You. Come with us. They will stay in a guest room" A guard says, jabbing a finger at Ember. Considering they had sent the letter out it was no surprise the Leader of the outsiders already knew of her existence. She glanced at the others before they were ushered by the other three guards down the long wide corridor that lasted a lifetime. Good luck seemed to ring in all of their heads.
