Friend or foe

Ember smoothed her hair and clothes down, fumbling with her fingers. They were guided down the twisted branches of the ever-seeming labyrinth that was just as colourless as the abandoned world outside. You would have thought they'd want some colour at least. Ember said, frowning at the monochrome walls and rugs, no trace of natural light was anywhere; just blinding bright lights that made everything washed in an even more bright shade of white. Ember's gaze stuck to the floor, How am I even gonna do this? I'm without the others and no way can I talk alone to some intergalactic space creatures. She bit her lip in worry, their main concern was if she fucks up and something happens to the others.

The clicking of everyone's heels came to a stop, in front lay a towering white door with glinting silver handles, delicately crafted in a way no human could achieve. A few silent seconds go past before one of the guards knocks on the door, the echos booms down the hallway like a gust of wind. As if on command the door swings wide open and showcases brightly lit room filled with silver adornments that vary in sizes and statues made of rock that look so stellar like. Obviously the other planets and universes had much better tech and resources than earth ever had. Inside stood a tall person, facing the fireplace which was glowing in shades of ice blue and grey. Such strange colours for something meant to be so bright and warming. The figure remained there, waving a hand for the masked guards to enter with Ember. She was shoved in to the room, stumbling over her feet before regaining balance. They straightened their back and looked at the figure. The silhouette was so human-like, not what you'd expect from an alien leader. It was bearing gowns fit for royalty, their hands swiflty moved back down, clasped in front of them.

"Your majesty, the guest has arrived as by your request." One guard said, bowing low and dipping his head, showing his highest respect and faith in his commander. As if commanded by instructions, the guards all turned around and left, making the door slam behind them.

"You are wondering why we are so sync like hm?" The shadow spoke in a silky smooth voice. The English was broken, ember assumed there were other languages throughout the universes. The question startled them, yes they were thinking that, but how?-  "The truth is we higher ranked Idrorixians can read most lower beings mind's" They said, turning around, eyes glinting. The atmosphere changed drastically. Ember's pupil's shrunk, she felt a cold rush flow through her body like an icy grip. They felt completely tongue tied, she tried to stammer something, anything but nothing budged.

"Oh you earth dwellers are so easily flustered. It's almost adorable! Oh sorry, please excuse my bad English, you call yourselves humans if I am not mistaken. But don't think about it, we don't permanently listen in to your every thought, that would be quite rude of us." They drawled.

"Why.. why are you so human like?" Ember stumbled upon their words, hands shaking slightly

"How ill-mannered of me" They said raising their hand, the light getting brighter as it rose, they then glided over to a long table, made from smoothed wood. "We can't reveal my full form to anyone apart from my circle of most trusted advisors. We also thought giving a more human design would fit your kind more" a smile passed their lips, seemingly relaxed and casual.

"That would make sense yes.. I'm assuming you can shapeshift then? Is that something most round here can do?" Ember faltered, her eyes meeting theirs.

"Yes I can, but no most others can't, however it is based on our hierarchy so some you will find can, in fact, have this abnormal ability" They said, drawing out a chair from the table. "Enough about that, come sit down. I believe we have things to discuss" They beckoned. Ember drew her chair opposite theirs so they would face eachother, as much as they hated eye contact she would have to endure it for this once.

"If i am not wrong, you want to make an alliance? A peace offer? I believe there was mentions of peace in the letter you sent to me. But what have you got to offer me?" They asked, tipping their head slightly. Ember hesitated, not sure on what to say.

"Well, underground we have 100,000 trained people which offers a supply in army in case of backup. You came here saying you wanted a planet to rule over a long side your planet? Well who knows earth better than us? It is completely destroyed out there. Where as we can help start to grow food and live on it. Wouldn't it look good on you having a healthy planet AND power over an entire different species which hasn't had contact with the other universes in centuries?" Ember blurted out, eyeing up the leader in front of them, waiting for their reaction.

"Go on?" They said, remaining behind their stoic mask, held so well and powerfully.

"I'm saying you could leave some parliament or government back here while you head back to, what was it? Oh yeah, Idrorix. But if you-"

"And how do you propose I do that?" They interjected, cutting Ember off. They had so much self-discipline it was intimidating; so apathetic is was unnerving.

"You could leave some of your circle behind?" Ember offered, glancing down at the floor, unable to maintain eye contact.

"Preposterous, they can't leave my side, they have to stick by my by law. Everyone in my circle has made a sworn pact to be on the same land as me for as long as they live. They will be killed if disobeyed." They said, their face stone-like and expressionless. Everytime eye contact fell between them, it was like staring into a deep sea of nothing, their thoughts were so isolated in a deep corner of their mind that nothing perceived on to their face. As much as Ember wanted this alliance to work in favour for everyone, they weren't sure on how much longer she could bare to look into their eyes. They could read her own mind after all, see thing's that even she couldn't see and it made them very uncomfortable. The air hung silent and heavy above them, like a suffocating gas was wrapping round their throat, sinking into her skin. Was there even any response to say to that? Ember brushed her arm with her hand then on the other, stumbling over words that disappeared as soon as they reached their tongue. Before Ember could stutter out any more nonsense they put a hand on the table.

"However. I can leave you here, you have a group of people you trust hm?"

"I- err- what?" Ember faltered, had they heard right? Must have not, why would a stranger put complete faith in them?

They slowly rose from their seat, "If you trust them then it will work, besides we would be able to see if you were going behind us, after all we can see everything in those tiny fascinating minds of yours, so if you were to plot against us it wouldn't go far" They gloated, a sly grin crossed her face, the first human sign Ember had seen on them in the past half an hour. "And of course, I highly doubt you would want to under-go the consequences of a betrayal. Us Idrorixians take it very seriously, no getting out of what you have done. If one does commit such awful crimes, then no matter what that individual must be punished in the correct manner." They drawled, turning back to the fireplace.

"We uhm, we would err be honored your highness, such will benefit both humans and Idrorixians from this decision." Ember said, starting to get up. "But if I may ask, what is your name?" They tilted their head

"Amaris is my name in human-folk, my Idrorixian name will remain disclosed. Only a selected few know it, majority of my people refer to me as 'The Highness' "

"Thank you your majesty" Ember said bowing low for four second before rising back up as a sign of respect. "When would you like to see my group?"

"Don't waste precious time with that, go back to the base and prepare the people. First orders will come in 4 weeks, I am relying on you and your group to take care and share our messages with your common fellows and peers" Amaris said, waving a hand of dismissal. Ember let out an inwards breath of relief, the tensions in their bones withered away.

"Understood." Ember noted, before heading towards the door. As a command the door flung open back to the bright hallway, their pupils dilated as the light shone like a burning ray of sun. After a few blinks she could see the guards that had sided up to her, probably as an escort they guessed.

That seemed, successful?
