Chapter 9: "The slut"

Packhouse on the main territory

Rob POV

I watch my sister and other women doing their training, and my heart is puffing with pride. Roseanne is my twin, two minutes younger than me, and even though I was kind of raised to be the protective older brother, I must admit she's never needed any sort of protection, not like Renan.

Now when I think of it, he had a tendency to play a victim and was an awful crybaby. Maybe I didn't take care of Roseanne because I was always so busy taking care of him?

Roseanne winks at me as she continues her sparring with no one but Gamma himself. Her curly dark her and dark skin shine in sun. She knows what she's doing. My father never taught her how to fight, but he also never protested when she wanted to watch him training Renan and me, and now I see she was a good observer and for sure didn't waste those hours she was spending looking at us.

"Hey, Rob, you visiting?"

I turn around to see Lionel, who is slowly coming toward me.

"You are not patrolling?" I ask.

"I've just finished; I must admit that warriors from Blackwood have some stamina and are not eager to complain," he says, smiling bitterly.

Lionel was one of my brother's best friends; he serves in patrol and, after the merge, stayed here when I was sent to the main territory. He now does the same as Dalton's subordinates; he patrols every day with warriors from Blackwood to make them familiar with the second territory. He was joking at the beginning that he would make them so tired that they would beg to be sent back. I guess that hasn't happened.

I turn around to look at my sister again as Lionel stands next to me. I was never his biggest fan, but he and my brother were almost inseparable since they were children.

"So how is Blackwood pack, or the first territory of Black Moon as it is called right now?" he asks.

"Normal, they have better discipline than we do. I don't complain, and Hank needed me."

"Yes, I know you and your sister are the biggest fans of our Beta. Don't give me that look, I'm not the happiest guy because of the merge, but I understand that was the best solution or more like the only solution. I complain because Patrick, the Gamma, makes everything so stressful; he is even tenser and more demanding than Hank. Everything must be done by the book according to him and..."

Lionel keeps complaining about long hours of training, and larger control from the supervisor, and so on, and so on. I'm not surprised that he isn't happy, he was always lazy, but at least he does his best.

"I've met the slut" I suddenly say and see Lionel gets stiffy immediately.

He avoids looking at me, and I know why. Lionel was there when Renan was killed; he was one of the warriors who were sent to train in the Blackwood pack.

"I've already told you many times I wasn't present when that happened. We came home after training, and I was tired. I wanted only to sleep. I saw this Kyle with Jimmy and someone else on the stairs, they were just talking, and later Kyle went with them upstairs, willingly. Renan said that he had something to talk about with them, and I went to my bedroom. I was woken up then they were already imprisoned. I don't know what exactly happened because Renan and others were already locked, and Alpha Ryan didn't allow anybody to talk with them, and later they were transferred to the training ground to face the challenge from Mikkeli Blackwood."

I sigh; yes, he told me the same story many times, like he didn't hear anything, including crying or screaming for help, how Mikkeli challenged them and killed them quickly.
