It's been two weeks since Percy and I began dating. Every day's been an adventure and never the same one. But today...
There was nothing for us to do.
It was upsetting really. I looked forward to our adventures, as they had seemingly become a daily ritual. We went to caves, beaches, shops, and old ruins. He always had something new for us to do. It seemed that this town never lacked that.
There was also a time that he had come really close to kissing me. If I'm being honest, I wish he would've.
"Percy," I ask curiously as we walk down a trail in the woods, "are you listening?"
"To you? Of course I am."
"Really?"
"You just said that architecture used to be an Olympic event."
"I did." I smile. Rarely anyone ever listens when I begin my rambles about architecture.
"So let's see it," He says. I raise an eyebrow. "Let's see your designs. I know you work on them a lot, so you have to have something amazing to show me. I wanna see if you would've won gold."
Some of my designs were private to me for no reason. They were like a journal. Of course, those were the only blueprints I had in my bag that I brought everywhere.
"... Okay." I don't know why I agreed, but I could never say no to Percy. We wait until we come up on the next picnic area and I dig through my bag for the perfect blueprint to lay on a table for him to see. He stares at it for a minute and then looks back at me. His eyes return to the sketch once again. I wasn't sure what he was thinking.
"This is the outside of the building. I have a design drawn up for the layout too." I pull it out of my bag and show him. "All the rooms are labeled." I begin to point out rooms, a little nervous by his sudden silence. I worked hard on these and I wasn't sure if he liked them. Why did I even care if he liked them?
"This is amazing," he compliments, without looking at me, tracing the drawing of the front of the home with his finger. "I think this is worthy of diamond."
"Diamond?" I ask.
"Much better than gold." He turns to face me. I notice how there's barely any room in between us. It's almost like we're in a bubble, sharing the exact same air, and there's only a tiny bit left. Or maybe that's just the way I'm breathing, with him this close. I would barely have to lean for our lips to meet. Our noses were already nearly there.
His eyes flicker closed for a second, and I think he's going to do it. I take in a sharp breath. Then, he shakes his head slightly and pulls away, before his lips have the chance to meet mine.
He doesn't say anything about it. He just begins to roll up my blueprints again for me, putting them gently in my bag.
"Ready to go?" He asks.
And I try not to sound how I feel when I practically spit out the words, "Yes. I want to go back to my room." I grab my back and I try not to stomp too much as we make our way back to his car.
It was silly really. The fact that I hadn't even thought of today being the day we would share a kiss, but when it didn't happen I was so upset. I didn't even know if it would ever happen. I was only here in the summer for a vacation and it wasn't like I was close either, I live across the country.
We ride in silence, he glances at me here and there with a raised eyebrow.
"Annabeth?" He finally speaks.
