The Test
My heart quickened as we entered the room. There were no windows and as far as I could see no doors. It was just an empty dark room with black walls and about 100 plain desks with chairs. I gasped as I grasped what the first portion of the test would be, a mental examination. Izzy gave my hand a quick squeeze and gave me a nervous smile. I returned the smile with just as much anxiousness. Everyone started to take their seats except me and Izzy. We were both frozen with fear. I felt another motionless body next to me. I turned my head to see a pretty girl with blonde hair a couple inches past her shoulders.
“You nervous?” I asked.
“Yep,” she answered in a sure voice I immediately trusted.
“Don’t worry you’ll be great. I’m Hayley.”
“Charlie.”
“Izzy.”
“Do you girls need a personal invitation to go to your desk?” Mrs Perlume said strictly. She was standing right behind us. We quickly took three seats next to each other at the back of the room. Charlie was on one side of me and I gave her a smile I looked to my other side and my heart started racing. It was Richard. He looked at me with a curious expression, not quite a smile but not a scowl. He just looked curious. I blushed and looked down at my desk. There was a loud groan and creak followed by anxious murmurs and a couple of surprised screams. I just jumped a little and tried to find where it came from. The roof was opening and there was multiple tubes coming down. Each tube stopped above someone’s head. A booming voice came out of some invisible speakers. “This examination will test your mental abilities. You will face questions about locking systems, money, medicines and more. You will also have to use problem solving to see if you can get yourself out of tricky situations. I took a deep breath and looked down at my paper. The front was filled with codes and numbers that I didn’t understand. The roof opened and but this time there were no squeals just gasps or quick jumps. Again, tubes rained down this time spitting out pencils and erasers.
“The test will begin in three… two…. Begin” The lights flicked on and suddenly the dark black room was brilliantly white.

“Now it’s time to test your physical skills.” Everyone in the room looked up
to Miss Perlume as she explained the difficult tasks we were about to endure. We stepped into another different room. There were a bunch of different exercise equipment with what looked like fourth year spies using. Miss Perlume blew a whistle and the 20 or so students immediately retreated from the equipment and marched swiftly to line up single file at the exit. She then blew a double whistle and they marched out in perfect synchronization. I gawked at them wide eyed until I heard a soft chuckle from beside me. It was Richard again. I quickly composed my face until it looked like a somewhat neutral expression. Richard then laughed a little louder from – what I’m guessing – my effort to look normal. His mother, Miss Perlume silenced him with a glare. That made me giggle but Charlie stopped me before Miss Perlume turned around again with a quick squeeze of my hand. We stood silently as the personal trainer (I’m guessing) gave Miss Perlume a status report. She thanked him and turned to us.
“This is where you will be completing the physical part of the test. I will now turn over to Mr. Darlington, the personal trainer at SPY Academy.”
I thought this would be a good time to take a glance at Richard since he would probably be listening carefully to Mr. Darlington. I was dead wrong. I turned my head to look at him expecting to see the side of his beautiful flawless face but to my surprise I saw the front. It’s not that the front is any worse than the side, I actually preferred it so I can look at his wonderful blue eyes but the reason I was so upset about this was because he was staring at me. My heart started to speed up. He smiled a quickly so I planned to smile back as I did he turned his head to the front so I was smiling at no one. At that moment Miss Perlume decided she wanted to make sure everybody was listening.
