Levi's POV
I couldn't help but glance at her during dinner. I regret inviting her over to my room tonight, considering I don't have protection on me. But I hope to do something else with her that's not that. Living here for 2 years with the same people is a little tiring. Seeing someone that just arrive with some qualities I like...

Picking her up from her room, I led her to mine. We spoke nothing as we walked to my room. I didn't know what to say. "Not a big talker, huh?" Hanji breaks the silence as we got to my door.
"No, not most of the time."
"The way you scared me in the interview room told me otherwise. Especially how you seem to take control of everything."
"I can act like that because most of the time, I don't give a damn. But starting to see you... that's personal. And I can't help but feel... what's the word...? Weak in the knees. And..." I lead her inside the room, turning on the lights. "I acted a bit... irrational earlier."
"Huh..." Hanji turns to me, giving me a strange, mischievous smile. Her eyes were glinting with trickery, and I wonder if this was the right move to pursue her as someone I want to be with. "Someone that's admitting their actions was irrational. Interesting. You don't see that every day. Especially now." She clears her throat, exploring my room at a slow pace. "Are you sure we didn't sneak into your leader's bedroom? This is... much better than the cell room I was provided."
"Yes, I'm sure. This is my room."
"Now that you said you were irrational earlier... I assume it's the part where you were asking me to your room?"
"Yes..." I sighed softly, collapsing on the bed. "If it's fine, can we not have sex tonight?"
Hanji sits next to me, "That's fine. It's better than nothing."
"I... guess..." We continued to sit in silence for a little bit. "What should we do then?"
"Talk. Unless you got some board games up your sleeves."
"I do have chess."

Hanji chose white, leaving me with black. She starts the game, and it's like I'm seeing the gears tick in her brain. "So your name is Levi. A strange name."
"So is Hanji," I replied, smiling as I moved my piece. Hanji's beautiful eyes stayed on the board. "I never heard of that name before. You can get variations of my name and different ways to say it. Mine is much more common than yours."
She makes her move before looking at me. "Well, I might have a unique name, but you have beautiful eyes. I've never seen eyes so silver and bright. It's scary sometimes. Almost like if I stare into them, I might turn to stone."
"I always thought of them somewhat of a curse. I hate it when everyone stared at me, thinking I was a freak. It's from my mom's side. There will be people with similar eye color to me, but... it's never exact."
"Speaking of school, what kind of kid were you? A bad boy? Or a little Momma's Boy?"
I made my move on the board, recalling my memories with my mom. "Definitely a Momma's Boy. I never knew my dad, or had any other parental figures in my life. I only had my mom. So, I listened to her and did whatever she said. After she died, I didn't know what to do. My uncle took me in, but we were always butting heads. I never considered him as a paternal figure."
"How did she die?"
"I... I don't know what the name was, but it was due to some sort of illness. No one told me about it, and I never wanted to find out. She was one of those workers on the streets, so I'm scared to even disgrace the last memory of her."
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"What about you? What kind of kid were you?"
"A nerd." She says with a smile on her face. "I got teased for my bulky glasses, and I wasn't like most girls in the courtyard. While every girl was gossiping and judging how each other were dressed, discussing what they should wear and prettier styles to show off their hair, I was busy in the mud and playing with the boys." Hanji chuckles, taking her attention off the board. "We used to look for bugs and played this treasure game."
"Treasure game?"
"Oh yes. There was this tree in the corner of the playground that had its roots crossed over like an X. We always said we were pirates raiding for booty. Every girl hated me. They shunned me out of the classes and always wrote mean things in my yearbook. But they worded it to make it seem like... compliments. Of course, I told my parents, but the girls' parents were just... cruel as well. I had to stop telling my parents because the number of students that teased me grew."
"Even the boys?"
"The boys were cool. They backed me up. But I moved away from them and lost contact. But I continued to be the nerd girl in every school. My glasses' frame got smaller and I was teased less. Every once in a while, a girl would hate how my hair was long, so I kept it in a ponytail. They got off my back when I had it in a ponytail."
"Let me see," I say, pointing to her hair, "I want to see why they teased you for it. The glasses I get, but not the hair."
Hanji nods, reaching up and pulling her rubber band out. Her beautiful, long hair fell from its form and draped down her shoulders. She tucks her chocolate-colored hair behind her ears, but it kept sliding out of its position and falling back where it was. "Do you see the problem?"
"I do."
"Huh?!" Hanji darts up, "What's wrong with my hair?"
"It's beautiful," I replied, smiling. "They teased you because you were more beautiful than they were. When you hid your hair in a ponytail, they saw less of a competition."
Hanji's cheeks ran red when I say those true words. "O-Oh... really? I was thinking of cutting it, but I never found the time. After running and hiding, I couldn't find something to cut my hair."
"I could help cut it. Though I'll feel bad to have to do it."
"As long as you don't slit my throat, we can do it now. Might as well get rid of it before it becomes a danger. Especially in the lab."
We paused our game of chess to get her ready to cut her lushes hair. I cleaned a pair of scissors as she found a spot in the bathroom. Within minutes, I was already cutting her hair. Snip by snip, we exchanged words of our past. Hearing her little tales of adventures would seem boring to some, but I would listen to them every hour. Especially that story she told about her and a prank against some bullies.
Hanji, I think I'm in love with you. Not full of lust, but love for your unique personality... I need a ray of sunshine in this darkness. You are my ray of sunshine...
