Notes: This chapter is like way longer than the others because it's the one I was building up to. No worries there will be more though. Also, the reason I didn't post for so long is because I got severe anxiety about it being cringy... Then I read your guy's comments, Thank you so much!

Today was the worst day of her life. It always came once in a few thousand years, and it was the WOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSTTTTTT. She had been in and out of sleep all day in her special box full of the softest blankets she stole. It helped with the burning pain, but it still sucked that she couldn't do anything AT ALL. She was starving, and cranky, and needed to stretch her legs. But she stayed... She stayed in her little miserable fluffy box until hunger got to her and she groaned as she wiggled out of her box still snuggled into a blanket. Wood on her bare hooves felt like she was walking on fire, well that was a bad example it felt like she was walking on a REALLYY cold floor. Like so cold it burned kind of cold. Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes at the pain, but she forced herself to keep them down. Even if no one was around, speaking of which. She finally noticed as she went down the stairs that it was pitch black, well not for her, but she could tell someone had turned all the lights off. That was weird enough but then no one there, like no one at all. Not even Pugsley was here. Of course, they left without me on one of their dumb adventures. She thought that, but she knew that they were probably worried for her. A garbage bag laid in the middle of the living room, its tantalizing smell forcing her to quickly grab it and start gorging herself. Didn't matter if some of the stuff she grabbed hurt her hands, all she wanted was food in her face hole. That was until bright lights flooded her vision. She blocked her eyes and hissed at the sudden change... then came the awful humans. "Surprise!" They all popped out from various hiding spaces and yelled that stupid word. Courtney didn't mind surprises too much, but now was the worst time of her life and it was greatly unneeded. And then it all sank in at once. "No, no, no, NO, NO! Not now!" She yelped curling into herself and the blanket she was wrapped in before quickly running back to her room without the food. As she ran, she could hear the others worried voices calling for her. "Courtney, what's wrong?" "Courtney what happened?" "Wait, Courtney!" They all blurred into one as she got farther into the torn house and into the attic. UGH why'd they have to be worried about me!? Why couldn't they have this one time not cared. She stuffed herself back into the box of soft blankets and angrily started ripping at one small sparks of flame coming from inside her mouth. She wasn't exactly mad at them.. Surprisingly she was madder at herself. She can't just once appreciate what they do for her even once can she!? The creak of a trap door interrupted herself hate and brooding and she growled loudly hoping that would give them a hint. "Courtney? Are you ok? I'm sorry if we startled you." Barney's muffled voice said as footsteps came fully into the attic. "Startled me!? You didn't startle me! No one can startle me! Go away!" There she goes... pushing people she loved away again. "Uhm Courtney, why does it sound like you're in a box full of expensive blankets." Barney's voice was now right next to her, and she knew he would just find out what was going on anyway. Humans were persistent like that, and it was stupid. She stuck her face out of the comfiness and had an expression of annoyance. She glared at Barney before answering his question. "Because I AM." Barney quickly turned his head to the box of blankets when he was previously looking over somewhere else. "Oh." He said looking at her for a second before turning his whole body and crouching down for a better look. "Woah, what's wrong with your face" Courtney was surprised by this comment, it was not expected for him to just straight up INSULT her. "Oh, y'know demon stuff or something, now can you go!" She knew full well that was a lie, this wasn't just a normal demon thing. It was a weird Courtney thing. Actually, there was a lot of weird stuff that she kinda just chalked up to 'demon thing'. "Are you sure? You usually don't run off when demon stuff happens. Or get distressed that people are here. You're usually more... angry." Courtney frowned and looked away for a moment. "Ok fine.. Yeah, you're right." "Oh" Barney simply said and sat down next to Courtneys comf box. "I-" Courtney hesitated; she still wasn't used to talking to people about her personal life. "I don't know what's wrong with me. Every thousand years I shed my scales and horns and then a bunch of gold runes appear shortly after. I've read every demon book known to demons, and there's nothing that explains this." She slumps halfway out the box sadily. "You look pretty cool actually." Courtney scoffs at Barney's compliment. "It sure doesn't feel good. It's like when your leg falls asleep and then for a few seconds it feels like little needles keep pricking you for a few seconds. Yeah, that but constant." Barney breathes in sharply as he thinks about it. "Oh yeah that sucks." Barney says and they sit there for a few seconds in silence. "Well.. do you need anything? I can bring it up for you." Courtney looks at him with a bit of blush on her face. "You would do that for me?" She genuinely asks, expecting him to back out and just go away. "Of course, I'll always help a friend in need." Barney says with the most sweet filled disgusting smile ever. But she smiles as well, and tears start to come from her eyes. "Thank you, really..." That was hard to say, but it was worth it. "Now go get me something to eat, I'm STARVING! I could eat a whole house." She says folding back into the blankets. "Please don't..." Barney says shortly after while going back down. Happy, that was a word she wasn't expecting to describe herself for a long time. But that's what she was
