~Alora's POV~
—————————
**People don't change, they just revel who they really are.**I groaned, sitting up slowly.
Last night was one of the worst beatings I've ever had.
Joe, my stepfather didn't like that his dinner was cold, and before I knew it, he started beating my ribs black and blue.
I didn't mean to upset him, or anger him, I was just trying to make his dinner, then slip away to my 'room'. My room was the basement.
My mom had tried to calm him, but eventually gave up the moment he stood up.
I sighed, carefully getting off the old moldy mattress I used as a bed.
I had to make Joe's breakfast before he woke up.
I quickly scrambled to my small cramped bathroom, careful not to hurt my ribs with the quick movements.
I splashed some cold water onto my face to wake me up a bit more, then I brushed my teeth with water and my old toothbrush.
When I was done, I spit in the sink, and walked back into my room.
Joe had bought me one set of nice clothes, saying something like,
"Can't have people suspecting anything."
I shrugged it off, quickly changing into the clothes.
My outfit! 👆
I straightened out my sweater, wincing at the moment near my ribs.
Had he broken them last night??
I grabbed my small bottle of painkillers, and took two, swallowing them dry.
Hopefully they would kick in before school started.
I rushed upstairs, making sure to be quiet.
If I woke Joe up before he woke up himself, I would get a beating.
I got out some eggs, and a pan.
Joe loved scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast.
I turned the stove on, and put the eggs and bacon in the same pan, starting to cook them.
"Morning." Someone said behind me.
I turned and saw my mom walking into the kitchen.
"Good morning!" I said cheerfully.
She sat down at the island counter and I got out two plates and two glasses.
"How'd you sleep?" I asked, as I piled the food on both plates.
"Ok." She said, yawning.
I placed one of the plates in front of her, and set the other at the empty seat beside her.
