In which the author establishes history
Everyone tells stories of happy memories ending eventually; how nothing truly lasts forever. But in every one of those stories, there's always one indistinguishable factor. The storytellers have an emotional connection to whatever they're talking about. Whether it was a relationship that faded, an experience, a passion, or a habit, they never forgot about it. These stories hold so much baggage that it's meaningful enough to keep as a tale to tell others about. Eternally will there be an emotional connection to them, no matter what memory came to a close.
So when one of your childhood friends suddenly disappears, and for years no contact was ever made. Naturally, the friendship becomes a memory. Something that once was. You'll wonder where they are. If they're okay and if they're even alive. You'll tell your new friends about them and some memorable things you've been through together. But ultimately, you'll miss it and would only hope for a friendship similar to what once was.
Sapnap was looking for an editor. He found himself backed up on videos and desperately wanting to upload a worthy video on his channel. The only thing holding him back was the demotivation he felt to continue the process of content creation. The filming process was a breeze, it was the editing after that was a struggle.
He posted a forum on his Twitter and had his mods look through them to remove the ineligible applicants. He's pushed through hours looking at portfolios, resumés, and comments on the forums for each possible editor. He managed to choose his top 5 and got them to edit a segment of a video with certain requirements as a final call back. Now, he's viewing the last editors' video with all the energy he has left.
He decided that this editor was his favorite out of the 4 others he watched. the light at the end of the tunnel finally showed as he started to write emails out. Four of those emails were apologetic "sorry you didn't get the position" letters. While the last one, being sent to a fellow member of the community username Lykiah, was a congratulation!
The next day, Lykiah and Sapnap hopped into a VC. Their intentions were to get to know each other and figure out the authenticity and regulations of this new hire. Little did he know that this interaction would reignite a spark.
"Can I ask you something that's a little off-topic?" Lykiah asks Sapnap.
"Um sure..." Sapnap says hesitantly, hoping that it's nothing unprofessional.
"By any chance do you remember someone named Laphent? As a gamer tag?" Lykiah asked slightly nervous.
"Yeah, of course. She was my best friend along with Dream when I was younger. Do you know her?" Sapnap now intrigued.
"Heh, yeah I know her pretty well," She chuckles lightly, "Hi Nicky."
It took Sapnap a second to realize why she called him 'Nicky,' a nickname only his old friend called him. It clicked suddenly and a wave of adrenaline kicked in.
"Holy shit Kailah!?" He exclaimed excitedly.
"How are you, Nick?!" Kailah exclaimed back with a smile you can hear through her voice.
"Small. Fucking. World. I mean as you can tell I'm doing the whole youtube and streamer thing, and I'd say I'm doing good with it. But, how are you? It's been way too fucking long."
"I'm doing pretty great, I'm living in New York right now! Remember when I told you all about my city plans when we were like 15? Well, I made them happen!" She cheerfully told him.
"Dude, that's so sick! I'm so happy for you. But you do know you're a huge asshole, right?" Sapnap told her changing quickly to a serious tone.
"Yes, I know I left without a warning-" She began to speak.
"Or a goodbye," He cut her off.
"Or a goodbye... But hear me out, I was a rebellious teen and I got in major trouble with my mom," Kailah tells Sapnap half-jokingly.
"Kai, you were the dorkiest purest 15-year-old I was friends with. What did you do that got you in so much trouble?" He replied to her with curiosity.
"I... I stole a bunch of manga from my school's library," Kailah told him embarrassingly.
"You're shitting me. Ain't no way Kai," Sapnap laughs.
"Yeaaa, I got my shit taken away for 3 months and by then I forgot all my passwords," She further explained to him, making things more embarrassing for her.
"Why was that just so on-brand with your personality at the time," He continues to laugh.
Kailah and Sapnap talked till the sunrose the next day. Even with all the lost years of friendship, it was as if they hadn't lost any time. Nothing seemed to have changed. Their friendship was still as strong as it was before Kailah disappear. Memories now being added to their friendship. Their stories of each other opened with a newly written chapter... A sequel to a friendship that never truly ended.
Kailah had reconnected with the rest of the Dream Team and became an honorary member after getting some rest. Kailah was friends with Dream and George when they were all younger too. The two were pleasantly surprised when she greeted them with the same cheerful tone she has always had. A year later, the topic of meeting up with everyone on the Dream SMP, more specifically the Dream Team, came up during a conversation they were having one day. Soon after, they were all in Florida, living in a beach house right by the ocean for the summer. This house, now theirs for summers to come as a new tradition was made.

I originally wrote a chapter as a prologue and it did not do any justice as to what a prologue should do. So I rewrote the whole thing and I couldn't be happier with my decision to do so. I hope you're liking the fic so far with all the backstory and continue to read! If not, just give the first chapter a try and if it's not your thing, that's alright! Thank you for giving it a chance anyway. xo
