"Oh, for gods' sake, [Name], Tanjiro isn't dead, he-"

"Then why is he so late?! It's been a few days since the Final Selection's ended, so why hasn't he arrived yet?!"

Urokodaki-san understood your worry. He shared the same anxiety as yours ever since Tanjiro's delay in arrival, and with the weather looking worse-for-wear, he had also worried for the young boy's safety.

He wished with all his heart that the Insect Pillar hadn't left this early, since he's going to be the one dealing with your fussing over your (unspoken) adoptive son.

The former water hashira gently lays his hands on your shoulders, hoping that it could somehow shake away your worries.

"He'll be fine, [Name]-san. You've seen how hard the boy's trained over the years. Along with that, there's no way he'll die before seeing Nezuko being woken up."

"You're right." You begin to recall the absolute chaos a few nights ago, with Nezuko suddenly waking from her slumber and pawing at your sleeping figure next to her.

"You seem really pent up from being cooped inside my house, [Name]-san. Why don't you go outside for another moment whilst I go and prepare dinner?"

Ahh... The last time I went outside the whole ordeal with the spirits thing had happened.. Along with Shinobu's.. Your shake away your thoughts, smiling slightly at noticing how so many things happen whilst you're outside of Urokodaki's house.

Nevertheless, you exit the abode, walking carefully to balance your sandals against the rocky terrain.

Quickly, you notice how your one pair of footsteps turn into two. Your curiosity gets the better of you as something tugs at your skirt.

"Oh, it's just you, Nezuko." Your hands softly raked the top of her head, smoothing out the stray hairs that got loose when she ran to you.

The demon gives a small, satisfied 'hmfph!' in response, leaning closer as the both of you strolled through the area.

"Nezuko! and- [Last Name]-san?!" A loud voice familiar to you and Nezuko resounded through the dense forest, carrying both wistfulnes and joy.

Turning around, you glance at who you recognized to be Tanjiro, just now noticing how much he had changed over the two years of training for the selection.

His lanky body was just the slightest bit broader than before, along with his hair reaching his shoulders in a rather messy fashion. What startled you the most, though, was his eyes.

No longer could you see the weakness that came with his fragile mind years ago. He looked much stronger mentally, eyes bright with what you assumed to be the feeling of accomplishment for surviving a goddamn demon infested garden.

He had a limp to his foot as he tried racing towards you and Nezuko, so you summon your fox spirits to nibble at his other ankle to stop him from injuring himself further.

The poor boy trips, nearly face-planting onto the ground if not for you spirit-sprinting towards him. He looks up at you, turning his head slightly towards his sister that was catching up to your speed.

"It's been a while, hasn't it, my dear Tanjiro." You say, smiling softly and planting a soft kiss onto his bandaged forehead.

The boy says nothing, instead favoring to sob into your tunic as he clutches onto his sister for dear life.
