[Orange's POV]

Well...this is a bit of a situation I've gotten myself into.

We had headed outside because it's nice outside, and leaned against a tree while talking after I gave Sabre some food. After Sabre finished the six apples I gave him, he just... leaned on my arm and fell asleep on me. And I have no idea what to do.

I want to get up, but he looks so happy right now, and I don't want to accidentally hurt him if I get up, and I might accidentally scare him awake if I even just move over a little, and I don't want to wake him up because he still looks a little tired.

...So I've just been sitting like this for the past hour. I guess it's fair that he's still tired, I kinda woke him up really early in the morning. I was just really excited! Dang, why must humans charge energy for so long? Is the reason why they don't have powers because they need a lot of energy just to function? Or do they actually have powers and just don't know how to use them, but it still takes up energy? I have so many questions, darn it! I wish there were more books and stuff about humans left after The Fall, then we'd have a lot of an easier time understanding Sabre.

Arg, but I need to go out so I can get some more stuff for Sabre. He's already running low on food, and I want him to be able to recover without having to worry about things like that anymore. From what he told me about his world, he didn't exactly have the best life there. I mean, people would injure him just to steal the little supplies he found? Who would do that?! At least he doesn't have to worry about getting water or having a safe shelter here... if he had to constantly fight for his life, I wonder what kind of world he had to live in if it was so bad. I don't even want to imagine how many times he must have been in the state he is now, without any help! I wonder why nobody else liked him there.

...Hm, maybe I could just-

[Sabre's POV]

I'm awoken by a loud sound, and I'm about to jolt upright when Orange calms me down.

"Sabre, it's alright! It was just me!" Orange says. "Sorry, I was trying to get up quietly so I wouldn't wake you up, and I accidentally moved my hand on top of a stick and it broke. It's okay, nothing to be scared about."

"Oh, I fell asleep...? Sorry buddy." I say, getting up and rubbing my eyes.

"Nah, it's alright! Why'd you get scared though?" Orange asks. "If you don't want to answer, that's okay."

"Oh, I'm just used to having to look out for monsters." I say. "Even though they're really big and loud, they can be surprisingly sneaky."

"Okay." Orange says, and we both get up from the ground.

I follow Orange back to the house, and he picks up the now-empty backpack from next to the door and turns to me.

"I'm going out to get some things, can you handle it here by yourself?" Orange says.

"Why can't I come with you?" I ask.

"Well, the Darkness just got out, and it would go nuts if it found out you're here." Orange says, ruffling my hair. "Besides, you just started recovering. It's safer to wait until you're better to start taking you around. This world might not be full of monsters, but there's a lot of stuff out there that I'm not so sure is exactly safe for a human."
