As the week goes on, I actually sort of become friends with Mango Girl. We both are gay, like Fall, are good at English, like mango, and have the same music taste. Who knew we had so much in common. Oh, and her actual name is Spam. She says it stands for Sally Pamilla Amanda Margaret.
Spam and I hang out everyday at lunch now, and we chase each other around in gym class, or do stupid competitions. I like Spam. She makes me laugh a lot and listens to me when I need her to. We've known each other for less than a few days, but we're already getting along great.
On Thursday night, I pack up some supplies for the beach, and lay out a swimsuit even though I'm not sure I'll swim. I decided to go on a cat prowl, this time not at midnight. I stroll along, thinking about Jay, which I can't seem to help anymore. Then I hear something behind me that makes me freeze and raise my hackles. A bark.
Everything moves in slow motion: I look behind me, see Peanut coming full force my way with a leash dragging behind her, and she does not look friendly.
Time speeds back up, and so do I, running for my life. I try to find a tree to climb, and when I do, I take the chance. I zoom towards it, but just when I have my front claws on it, my midsection is chomped onto by a goliath of a dog. I freak out, not wanting to scratch Jay's dog, but also afraid of being torn into more by Jay's dog. I yowl and scream, trying to wriggle my way out of Peanut's grip, but it doesn't seem to help, as I am just bitten down on harder. This time I play dead, hoping she'll give up.
Surprisingly, she does, dropping me, but as I try to run away from her a second time, she comes after me, ready to attack yet again. This time, she doesn't get to. I look back when I run out of adrenaline to run off of, starting to really feel the effects of her damage on my sides. I see her being dragged back home by Jay, who seems to be in a hurry.
I flop down on some grass by the park, shivering from the pain. I can feel my consciousness slipping, which is dangerous since I am in the open, bleeding out at night. Any predator could find me and make me an easy meal. That thought freaks me out, making me try to stay awake longer, trying to get some energy to make it back home.
I freeze in place when I hear footsteps coming my way, frightened that they might belong to a predator. I freak out, mewling piteously and dragging myself towards home. But then I stop, hearing something beautiful. Jay's voice. My knight in shining armor.
Jay rushes up to me, worry written all over his face. "Oh no, no no no... poor Kitty," he says, gently scooping me up. I meow, feeling bad for making him upset.
"Oh god, you poor thing. I'm not sure what I should do... the closest emergency vet is like, two hours away... fuck fuck fuckkk you're bleeding so badly..." he says, taking his hoodie off and wrapping it around my middle to stop the bleeding. He takes off to his house, jogging, but careful not to jostle me too much.
At his house, he goes straight to Cara, who's in the living room.
"Mom! Look what Peanut did to Kitty, can you help him? Please? Please mom, what should I do," He says rapidly, folding the hoodie back so she can see my wounds. I look up at his face meekly, worried about him. The last thing I see before I pass out is tears falling down Jay's face.

I wake up next to him, my midsection bandaged up. I start purring when I realize I'm alive, and next to a sleeping Jay. I look around his room until I see his alarm clock sitting on his dresser. It's 5 am. I think I passed out around 9 or 10 pm. At least I've gotten some sleep. I stop purring and slink out of his bedroom, trying to find the nearest exit. I wish I could stay but I have school today, a field trip actually, and my parents would freak out if they realized I wasn't home.
