"Thought you said you couldn't dance?" Slight confusion spreads across my face as he pulls me right against him, seemingly knowing exactly what he was doing.
My breath hitches as he snakes one arm around my lower back, keeping me pressed against him as he tucks one leg between mine.
"Said nothing of the sort doll." He gently takes my arms, tossing them over his shoulders before letting his hands glide slowly back to where they were previously resting. "Just Steve playin' around."
"Yeah? That your way to get a girl to dance with ya, through Steve?"
"Only this real pretty one."
"You seem like you got a lotta lines Bucky."
"And you seem to like callin' me out on them Lottie." I shake my head gently, laughing at his playfulness as he starts to sway us both to the music.
"Feel like now would be a good time to tell ya I can't dance." He lifts his one eyebrow, looking down at me curiously without stopping his swaying motion.
"At all? I find that hard to believe."
"I can't say I'd classify a little bit of ballroom in the same category as this typa dancing."
Bucky suddenly releases his grip on me, dropping my body back in a circular motion before snapping me back upright till our noses are almost touching.
"I think you'll be just fine doll, follow me yeah?" I nod breathlessly, not being able to think straight enough to form a comprehensive answer. "Just feel the rhythm."
He starts guiding my hips in circular motions that match his own perfectly, his hand not moving from my hips, even after I catch on.
I bite down on my lip, trying to concentrate on mimicking his actions as he starts to rock his hips forward into mine.
"Gotta shake you up a little." I laugh when he slides his hand to the middle of my back and shakes me side to side. "Let go, promise I gotcha."
I stopped overthinking my every movement, lifting my eyes to meet his clear blue ones as I let him consume all my attention instead.
My hands stay around his neck, letting him take control, moving side to side as my body follows naturally.
"Gonna turn ya round." His voice is low, but loud enough for me to hear him through my daze and I nod as he spins me around, pressing my back to his chest.
He slowly drapes my one arm back around his neck and I can feel my heart beating faster as he pulls my hips back into him.
I slowly roll my hips against him, letting my hand gently run over the back of his neck as he hums deeply.
"There ya go." Shivers run down my spine as he whispers into my ear and for a moment, I forget about everything and just focus on the man behind me. "Just like that."
He keeps close, only spinning me back around to face him as the song comes to an end. My arms rest on the back of his neck, as he keeps his gaze locked on me.
"Where'd you learn to dance like that?" I break the silence, biting down on my lip as I wait for a response.
"Ma used to make me take my lil' sister to her dance lessons." My eyes take in his facial expressions as he talks, finding myself entranced by the greaser in front of me. "Her teacher was real adamant on gettin' me to join in."
"She did a real good job then."
"Ya think so?" He smirks and I look downward, focusing on the collar of his jacket to avoid his eyes.
"Mmh, that was somethin' alright." I blush, thinking about the way his body moved right against mine. "Never danced like that before."
"No need in being shy now doll." He hooks his fingers under my chin, tilting my head up slightly until my eyes met his gaze once again. "I'll gladly take ya dancin' again."
Was that his way of saying he wants to see me again?
"Doe-"
"There you two are." I turn my head to the voice, Bucky's hand falling away from my face at the sudden movement. "Seem to keep trying to disappear."
"We've been right here Arla." I state, stepping backwards slightly, creating some space between Bucky and me.
Despite my movement, his arm doesn't falter away from my waist, staying there as if that's where it was meant to be.
"Oh, I know." I follow her gaze, her eyes settling on Bucky's arm before winking at me. "Unfortunately, we gotta hit the road."
I deflate for a second, realizing that I was going back to an empty home once again.
My expression falters ever so slightly, but I smile, covering it up with a small nod.
"Ma is waitin' up on us."
"I'm staying over?"
"Well yeah, I just assumed." She smiles gently, easily picking up on the uneasiness in my expression. "Now, I'm serious about Ma, you know how she gets."
I laugh at her tone, but nod nonetheless.
"Give us a second, would ya?" I ask shyly, my cheeks heating up as Arla smirks back at me.
"Steve and I will be out front. Don't take too long." With that, she's already spun around, dragging Steve alongside her towards the exit of the diner.
I stay still for a moment, trying to figure out what I was going to say, considering we were alone once again, at my request.
A gentle squeeze on my hip causes me to jump, snapping my attention back over to the man standing beside me.
"Earth to Lottie." He smirks playfully, hooking his free arm around the other side of my waist as he tugs me back in front of him. "Get lost somewhere doll?"
"Will I see you again?" The words slip out before I can stop them and my hand immediately follows, lifting up to cover my mouth.
He chuckles deeply, lifting his hand up to my own as he removes it from my face slowly.
"How 'bout this." He lifts both of our hands up to his lips, kissing the back of mine with a smirk. "Friday night, you and me. Sound good?"
"Mmh." I blush furiously, simply nodding in response, knowing that if I had to talk, I would make a complete fool of myself.
Even more so than before.
"Come on, let me walk ya out."
