"Y/n, slow down!" Sarah yells as she races towards me. Her long red hair flashes red streaks from the sun as she races towards me. I smile as I slow down my pace and wait for her to catch up.

"Sorry." I say and snort when she gives me a look.

"You walk too fast, y'know." She says with a smirk and I laugh.

"Do you know how many times I've heard that before?" I say and she giggles.

"Okay, you have a point."

We continue walking till we eventually meet the familiar fork in the road that we've known since forever. When me and Sarah first met we were younger so we practically grew up together.

"Do you maybe want to come over today? Schools out so why not spend the first day of summer together." Sarah asks as we walk towards the right side of the road. I give her a small frown and she seems surprised at how she forgot.

"Oh right, I totally forgot. I'm sorry." She says as she rubs the back of her neck, her cheeks turning red.

"No, it's okay." I smile and she gives me a small one in return.

Eventually we meet out houses, hers only two blocks away from mine. Anytime I reach my home, a feeling of dread hits me. I preferred being at school. It felt more cozy and more as a normal home compared to mine as hard as that might be to believe. That's why I can't go to sleep overs or even visit a friends house anymore since my parents always point out how I felt happier there. And the truth is, I did. That's why they hated it.

Sarah sighs as she looks down and kicks a small stone away off the pavement.

"I guess, when will we visit again?" She asks and I can tell she feels as if this is the last before school returns.

"I promise, I'll make it sometime soon." I say with a confident glare. "My parents can't stop me from living my life, no matter how hard they try. I'll visit you as much as I can." She gives me a smile of relief and I see her shoulders intense a little.

"Okay, y/n." She says with a glint of hope in her eye. "I hope that even if I don't see you much this summer, that you enjoy it. Make the most of it." I give her a nod and a smile as she returns one as she turns to walk to her house.

I'll try to make the most of it, I think to myself. But things will stay the same so there's really no rush. My life's just rather ordinary.
