༺ ♡ ༻

In an endless pit of comforting pillows and blankets, a dream of a demon relaxed during her free time. An upper moon, one of the six, lie in the midst of the dark room she called her own. A blood-red lamp on a shelf gave off an eerie lighting effect to her cloudy skin. Her thin hair spread over the area she lay, framing her face that focused deeply on a rotted apple she tossed into the air continuously.

Most of (Y/n)'s daylight hours were spent in this room, deep inside of the infinity fortress most high ranked demons prowled around during their off time. One of her more liked and fellow ranked demons, Akaza, often came to her to relax himself or to hide away from Douma who he most dearly hated. They had been heading out on missions and sitting in silence with each other for many hours. He even made it a routine to see her every day.

Today, he hadn't stopped by. He'd recently been sent out on another hunt for the blue spider lily, but that was two nights ago. She didn't worry too much considering his strength, but couldn't help think about what went wrong.

Her mind wandered thinking about his whereabouts, but it didn't go far. A creaking in the wooden floor boards caught her attention. She lifted her head up and brought her knees together, listening closely to locate the sound. Another creak, then a third. She sat up, resting her weight on her elbows as the sounds got closer.

clack

Someone's hand grabbed the handle of the door, then slid it open sightly. A head of pink hair poked through the opening, followed by yellow eyes and blue tattoos. Akaza had finally made it back.

(Y/n) sighed deeply in half frustration, and half relief. "What took you so long?" she asked, placing the apple on a table beside her.

He made her wait for a response as he slipped himself inside the room, closing the door behind him. "I... I defeated a hashira," he said.

Her eyes widened slightly, then softened as she gave him a smile. "That's great!" she said, clasping her hands together. "I'm happy for you!"

Akaza didn't feel any joy for himself. It was just another hashira after all. This one was of course, different from the others. They had kept him busy for a while, long enough to make him run from the sunlight that a new day shone on him. He had to resort to a dip in the mountain so he wouldn't be burned. Running away from something so deadly always made him irritated, making him feel weak even.

He looked toward (Y/n)'s figure with a grim expression on his features. "Thank you," he replied.

(Y/n) squinted her eyes and bit her tongue. "Is there something wrong?" she asked.

His eyes wandered the room, searching for a way out of her question. He spotted an open area, right beside the other demon. "Can I sit?"

(Y/n) turned her head to her right, curving her lips into an upside down smile as she nodded. "Sure."

Akaza walked over to her before flopping himself down into the pile of pillows with a heavy sigh. He leaned his head back and stared at the wooden ceiling. (Y/n) craned her neck to look over him, wondering why he was more irritable than his usual self.

"..."

"Is there something I can help with?" she questioned.

Akaza didn't know how to respond, or why he even came to her today. Perhaps his day just wouldn't feel complete without visiting her.

"Do you ever feel... weak?"

Those words, coming from this proud of a demon made her rethink everything she knew about him. After all, he hated all that was weak, always looking down on humans who put up a easy fight. "Seriously Akaza?" She shook her head at his insane question.

"Sorry."

Laying down comfortably, she responded. "Look, you don't have to be sorry for anything. But I don't understand why you always look down on yourself when you haven't done anything wrong, especially-" she stopped speaking when he suddenly moved.

His arms enclosed themselves around her rib cage as his head rested itself on her chest. No words or thoughts formed in (Y/n)'s head as her arms stayed at her sides. The strong hold he had on her would be painful to any human, but she had grown used to his strong arms often caging her in an embrace. Still, the woman was too stunned to speak.

Eventually, her mind caught up to what was currently happening. So, she finally relaxed herself and laid one hand on his arm, and the other on his pink hair. Running her nails through the short strands, she sighed, knowing he had relaxed.

"Your strong," she whispered, tracing the blue lines along his arm. "Don't doubt yourself like that, it's nothing like the normal you."

After his silence continued, her hand along his arm trail up to meet his face. Her thumb gently traced his jawline, her eyes not piercing him for once.

Without knowing when his embrace would end, she closed her eyes, relaxing her head against one of the pillows.

Akaza could hear her heartbeat slowing down, and once it became constant, he lifted himself off of her. His hands found her rib cage from on top of her clothes, and her eyes fluttered open to see his intense ones circling her face. Her hand still lay connected with his face, and her thumb now traced the shape of his ear. Her head tilted to see his full features, her eyes following wherever her hand went.

He finally spoke, "what's with that look?"

Her eyes flashed back to his. "What look?"

His face was stoic as he replied, "you look like your in love with me."

Her eyes settled at his lips, to where her hand followed. "Oh, but I am," she cooed.

Her feelings were nothing like the fake ones of upper rank two, and he knew that well. He softly grinned at her, his eyes narrowing. One tattooed hand moved to her waist, the second up to just below her ear. He pulled himself over her, brushing his nose against hers as he hovered over her lips,

"glad we agree."
