That night, Ruby and Cake met again. Ruby was SUPER excited about the party, which meant that she was SUPER hyper. Cake hated it, but loved it at the same time. It was just something about her that he found funny sometimes. As Ruby told Cake about the party, he thought a lot about it, gaining more and more interest with each sentence Ruby shouted out. He was excited now, too. He would wear his favorite dress, and hope to the gods that Flower didn't show up, even though he knew she would. It was a huge party with a celebrity, after all. She'd definitely be there. But Cake didn't even care at this point. He'd just ignore Flower.
Cake went to the hotel room he was staying in and decided to get some sleep before the party, but he just couldn't. He was too excited. He knew he had a special day ahead of him. People often fell in love at parties, and Cake wanted to make his life more interesting. He tossed and turned for what felt like years before checking his phone. Five missed calls, two from his dad, two from Pie, and... one from.. his mom. He decided not to swipe away the notification, so that he could call her back in the morning. He set his phone down on the nightstand, and thought about what his mother would say to him, and what he would say to her. He imagined the call going well, with him and his mom treating each other nicely. Eventually, he drifted off to sleep without even realizing it.
The next morning, Cake woke up slowly. He was tired from his lack of sleep last night. But, he remembered that he would try and call his mom back. He picked up his phone and opened the notification, and the phone made that noise it made when the person on the other end of the call hadn't picked up their phone yet. It did this for a whole minute, but Cake refused to end the call. He just wanted to talk to his mother again, maybe that would make him happier. Eventually, she answered the call.
"How's my favorite child doing?"
"Wait, wait, favorite?!"
"Yep! You were the only obedient one while I was around."
"Umm... well, I'm doing fine... I guess I could say I'm less obedient now, though..."
"Where are you? Your father's so worried, he called me!"
"Oh... um.. promise you won't tell him exactly where I am...?"
"Promise."
"I'm in the nameless town. I just needed a change of scenery..."
"Oh, that's fine. I'll tell him that you're okay. Bye, hun!"
"Bye, mom-"
She hung up just as Cake finished his sentence. He was fucked, for sure. She was gonna tell his dad everything, huh? Well, he really didn't care. As long as he came back, his dad shouldn't be too mad, right? The party was at 8:30pm. He just needed to find something to do until then, and then he'd go to the party, and head back home, hopefully taking someone he loved with him.
