The next morning, Marcy habitually reached out beside her, silently asking to be pulled onto Sasha's chest and lulled back into sleep. Unfortunately for her, Sasha was hours away, as she would be until Monday morning. Only two more sleeps until Sasha, she thought. That's all. Despite this blow, the text on Marcy's phone almost made up for it.

Sashimi, 7:23 am: morning, beautiful. I'm gonna be busy today, but maybe I can call at lunch. Have a good day <3

Marbles, 9:15 am: good morning, sashy. Go kick that TED talk's ass, or whatever you're doing...

With a languid stretch, Marcy yawned, deciding to be as productive as Sasha was today. She dutifully ate breakfast (sugary cereal), cleaned the living room (let the Roomba run as she watched cartoons), and even made progress on her webcomic (drew another Sasha sketch), and all before noon. With a satisfied nod, Marcy rewarded herself with some video games, and upon booting up her console saw Anne online.

"Sup, Marbles?" Anne crackled through Marcy's headset, joining her party. "What's the vibe today?"

"Something chill. Stardew, maybe?"

"Your brain is so big."

The girls jumped into a shared save file, tending to their virtual crops and attempting to woo townsfolk. Marcy had to admit that having a pixel wife made her feel a teensy bit guilty, a minute betrayal, but one look at Haley and she was sold. A blonde with an attitude? Yes, please.

"Dude, why won't the purple haired one marry me?" Anne complained.

"Probably because you don't even know her name. And you keep getting caught digging through the trash. I bet you smell."

"Not my fault the towns people are so judgmental."

"Reminds me of a town I used to know," Marcy smiled. "I'm sure you'll win them over. You always do."

"How did you even manage to marry Haley so fast? We're not even in year two yet."

"Easy. I looked up what gifts she likes, and modded my farm to grow that exponentially faster."

"Oh. Okay. Yeah, easy." Anne sat back, trying not to rage at virtual fishing. "You heard from your taller half today?"

"That could be almost everyone on earth."

"Yeah, except I said yours."

Blushing, Marcy replied, "yeah, I got a good morning text. About the only thing I like about her being gone."

"Frog, when will it be my turn?"

"Your time will come, Anne. At least in Stardew Valley."

"...thanks, I think."

Marcy happily continued farming, thankful for Anne and the distraction. The undemanding domesticity of the game melted her troubles away, and though she loved her life in the city with its constant hum of traffic and bubbling energy, a cozy cottage with Sasha sounded magical. Playing this game, watching seasons and years fly by as she built a little life, always made Marcy think about her own future. So many possibilities, so many paths, yet one unwavering constant. She wanted Sasha with her.

Marcy thought back to when Sasha came home from work one night and found her curled up on the couch, completely fixated by this game. The blonde wordlessly tugged Marcy into her lap, peeking over her shoulder to see what all the fuss was about. Upon seeing a tiny blonde character married to Marcy's character, Sasha assumed it was herself, and Marcy wasn't going to correct her.

Meanwhile, at the conference, Sasha confidently concluded her talk, taking a quick bow before striding through neat rows of chairs to the exit. Most attendees would be heading for dinner now, but after a bout of public speaking, Sasha needed a moment to recharge. She decided to take a stroll around her luxurious hotel, and as she walked, placed a hand in her suit pocket.

Her hand closed tightly around the little velvet box inside, habitually ensuring it was still there. She'd had the thing for weeks- a simple but expertly crafted engagement ring. If only she could find the right time to actually pop the question.

Sasha got close to proposing a few weeks ago, as the two baked together and Marcy spilled flour, and instead of getting upset or apologizing, she just scooped some up and booped Sasha's nose, looking up at her with stars in her eyes. She almost proposed every time Marcy offered to braid her hair, her fingers softer and more patient than Sasha's could ever manage. Marcy brought joy to any situation, offered unique perspective, as well as endless knowledge. Though Marcy sometimes called her 'sunshine' thanks to her golden hair, Marcy was the real ray of light.

Marcy had almost gotten away from her so many times, from accidental otherworldly travel, nearly dying, and moving states away, and Sasha was never one to waste time. She just needed to go for it. Surely Marcy would say yes, right?

Realizing her walk stretched into the later hours of the evening, Sasha turned in for the night, reluctantly returning to her room. Though late, Sasha took a chance, video chatting Marcy as she sat at the bulky wooden desk in the corner. Marcy answered, headphones on, as she sat at her own desk.

"Hi, Marbles," Sasha greeted, propping her phone up and leaning back.

"Sashy," Marcy smiled, though when she looked down and caught a glimpse of Sasha in a suit, lost her train of thought.

"Cat got your tongue, honey?" Sasha teased.

Marcy recovered with a nod, refocusing back on her sketches. "How is your big important work conference?"

"Not feeling very important right now," Sasha confessed, shrugging as she removed her jewelry for the night. "I miss you. How'd you sleep last night?"

"Well. Shockingly well, all things considered. And you? Please tell me you at least slept a couple hours..."

Sasha cringed. "Well, I did try. It's just hard. You know how I feel about sleeping alone, even after all this time."

Marcy met Sasha's gaze, frowning upon noticing the dark circles under the blonde's vibrant blue eyes. "No, I know it's hard. It's okay, love. You're doing great."

Nodding, Sasha changed the subject, asking, "get any work done today? I know you wanted to finish that chapter this weekend."

Shaking her head, Marcy blushed, pulling her tablet to her chest. "Haven't done much. Been a lazy weekend."

It was partially true, but Marcy held the panels she'd been working on for the last hour or so close to her chest, wanting its contents to remain a surprise. This gave her two things to look forward to- Sasha herself, and her reaction to the piece.

"Seems suspicious, but okay..." Sasha smiled as Marcy visibly restrained herself from revealing the tablet. "Well, you keep working on whatever beautiful thing you're making now. I'm gonna go before you ruin whatever surprise you're planning. Get some rest though, okay?"

"Okay. I wish you could..."

"I know. I'll figure something out. Don't worry about me."

"I always do," Marcy whispered. "Goodnight, Sash. Love you."

"Love you too, baby."
