Being a shared pawn is one thing, but to be neglected due to having no Sacred Gear, talent for magic, or physical prowess is another, especially when the attention is instead put to the two other pawns.
Then, it all comes to neglect and betrayal.

If you take a look at this town called Kuoh, you would think that it's a peaceful place, maybe a place that possesses little (if any) unusual things about it. Well, that's a lie.
In reality, one normally wouldn't be able to tell if their neighbor is a Devil, Angel, or a Fallen, all three of which happen to reside in this town as well.
Know what makes it worse? Humans can either end up being killed by one of the "Creatures of Darkness" or end up being reincarnated by Devils to "help the Underworld community".
And a young man named F/n L/n....well, let's just say he's unfortunately a part of a situation that could just be considered worse than just being reincarnated.

(No One's POV)
F/n was seen eating all by himself for two reasons: 1) most people saw him as an aloof loner and 2) working for both the ORC and the Student Council can leave a lot of stress on a person's mind.
However when he was enjoying the peace and silence, somebody came up to the roof and greeted him with his usual smile.
???: There you are, F/n.
F/n turned around and saw his fellow Devil piece and best friend, Yuuto Kiba (Kuoh's Prince).

F/n: Oh, hey Kiba.
Kiba: Are you okay? Why sit on the roof by yourself?
F/n: *sighs* I'm fine, it's just....being a shared pawn is hard for me. You honestly wouldn't understand.
Kiba: Yeah, you're right. Still, I can understand how hard it is for you. Both the Kings expect a lot out of you.
F/n: How can that be if they stack me with work and punish me for unintended offences?
Kiba knelt down to his friend and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
Kiba: I don't know. I guess what I can say is that I hope you do get stronger. Then, you could become better at protecting everyone else.
Although it was a small smile, F/n still felt touched by Kiba's words.
F/n: I'll keep those words in my memory bank. Thanks.
Kiba: No problem, F/n.
Kiba then left F/n alone, allowing him to think about ways he can try to improve himself.
For the rest of the school day, he kept to himself, got taunted by his fellow Pawns, and...was generally ignored.
~ Timeskip ~
School ended shortly after and F/n was seen walking by the ORC building when he heard talking. Although he was not the nosy type, he still decided to listen in.
Koneko: Honestly, why was he chosen out of all people?
Tsubaki: I don't know, but that was an honest mistake.
Asia: Whoa, guys. Isn't that a bit mean to say?
Issei: Pfft, please. That guy could never reach my level even if he "borrowed" somebody else's power.
Sona: I'm afraid he's right. F/n isn't making any progress on improving himself, even after the trials we put him through. Magic, combat, or even manifesting a Sacred Gear.
Rias: Indeed. I might just ask my brother to remove him from the program and just forget it altogther. He can go back to being a normal shadow.
Upset by those words, F/n just left the school and went right home. For the rest of the day, he spent his time doing things to take his mind off the negative thoughts that clouded his mind.
F/n:*Am I really that useless compared to those *two*? I know of my low power, but is that really an excuse to consider me a nuisance?*
Unbeknownst to F/n, somebody....or something was watching him from the distance.
???: *How pathetic....but he will definitely do.*
The screen then faded to black on the mysterious figure.
