lani was currently in a very uncomfortable situation and if there's anything that makes lani nervous, it's uncomfortable situations. she was sat right next to conrad at the dinner table, jere was on her other side.
"oh! i almost forgot." susannah said. she got up and rushed out of the room, she returned with an envelope in her hands. "here lani, i scored you an invite to the country club's debutante season." she beamed.
"debutantes? isn't that something from the 1800's?" lani asked.
"well yeah, but then it was different, it was for finding a husband, but now, they teach you leadership skills and all sorts of things." she explained.
"i don't think i'm fancy enough for it." lani said.
"i agree, our lani? in a fancy dress, waltzing? i don't think it's possible." jere said, lani giggled.
"as much as i hate agreeing with jere, he's right." conrad said. lani's laughter died down as she turned to her right for the first time that night, she eyed conrad up and down with the nastiest look she could muster and turned back around, softening her eyes.
"what the hell." lani shrugged. "i'll do it." wether she only did that to contradict conrad or did it for herself is something lani will never reveal.
"great! let's go shopping tomorrow." susannah said. fernanda nodded from beside her.
"is belly gonna be in it too?" lani asked.
"yes but i just couldn't wait until she got here to give you yours." susannah answered. elani nodded in understanding and dinner continued, she just ignored conrad the entire time.
"bye girls see you tomorrow!" susannah said at the end of the night, walking the ramirez girls to the door.
they both said bye at the same time and walked across the street to their house. "hey what was up with that dirty look you gave conrad earlier?" fernanda asked her daughter.
