The common argument is that nobody gets late term abortions for non-medical reasons.
Here's the % of reasons women get late term abortions.
32%: women didn't recognise pregnancy/misjudged gestation
22%: woman made it hard to make arrangements for abortion
15%: she was afraid to tell her parents/partner
11%: she took time to decide if she wanted an abortion
3%: she waited for her relationship to change
3%: she was pressured to not get an abortion
3%: something changed after she got pregnant (non medical)
3%: woman didn't know timing was important
2%: woman didn't know she could get an abortion
1%: fetal problem was diagnosed later in pregnancy
4%: it put her health at risk.
1%: it put her life at risk.
That's a total of 1% of late term abortions being medically necessary of 5% being medically related. So clearly, not all (or even most) or late term abortions are for medical reasons.
