"We should get married," Your eyes widen by a fraction of a centimetre, and your brows disappear behind the locks of hair that have fallen into your face. Not because you were shocked by the suggestion, of course, you both already act like such a domestic couple, it seemed like a dream to hear your one and only suggest tying the knot. It's a pleasant surprise, to say the least. "After we leave, I mean."

You wonder how long it's taken for him to think about it and then bring it up to you. Norton Campbell, from what you've gathered all this time as his companion, was a man with mood swings that changed as fast as the seasons—or even the weather, on bad days. In a blink of an eye, he could have already changed his mind about something, and that's why Norton rarely ever speaks up about an agenda that's been weighing on his mind, lest he suddenly no longer wants to go through with it. So, the prospector must have been brooding over the concept of marriage between the two of you for a while.

Thinking back, you hardly see any reason you shouldn't go through with it once you find yourself free from these games. You already act like spouses—sweet and affectionate like newlyweds, but petty bantering and silly arguments like an old married couple. But then again, if those were your arguments as to why you should just tie the knot already, couldn't it also be the exact opposite? Why should you be married on paper at all if nothing would exactly change about you two except for status and means of addressing? To flaunt your marital status? Neither you nor Norton were of the show-offing type, even if you could be consecutively quite proud.

Did the geologist feel pressured by the norm? Is he uncomfortable that you're not conforming to society's agenda when couples who have been together for years don't sign up for a mortgage immediately upon hitting the 3-year milestone? You fear that Norton was thinking these things and that he would have to be forced to spend a fortune to buy a ring that in the long run might affect your financial stability since anything less than absolute perfect would not fit Norton's standards.

"We don't have to if you don't want to," You say delicately as the Prospector tucks some loose strands of hair behind your ear. You bathe in the warmth that his bare, wide chest provides you as you press your face into it. Slightly muffled, you reassure, "But if it makes you happy, I'll do it." His hand trails to the small of your back, his mildly scarred palm that is typically hidden behind dark gloves in the day completely bare in the night, cool from the lack of fabric sheltering it. Norton's voice comes out a little more pouty than he intended, "Do you not want to marry me?"Your light giggles tickle his chest, and even though you're not facing him, you know the expression he has on is something you wouldn't be able to help but laugh even harder at. "Is one Campbell not enough for you? I thought you liked being one and only," You tease, his retort being a light pinch to your waist.

"I do like being the only Campbell... But I wouldn't mind sharing my last name with you." You pull away from him entirely and sit up, a whine almost leaves his lips at the lack of warmth engulfing his front as Norton has hands wide open and inviting for you to return to his embrace. "Who said I was going to take your last name?"

The Prospector sits up with you, spluttering as his face turns a crimson color, a victorious grin pulling at the edges of your lips. "I-I just thought... Since I'm typically the one who wears the trousers in our relationship..." Norton uncharacteristically stutters, mumbling the last few words.

You smile at him fondly and not in a mocking manner this time, a hand coming to caress his cheek, thumbnail lightly stroking the dark, scarred patch of his skin that enveloped one of his lovely eyes. Tufts of his soft, raven hair kisses at the back of your hand as you touch him. His skin is still a bit warm from your teasing. "I just go with whatever you want because I'm fine doing anything if I'm doing it with you,"

Norton's face turns to press a kiss to your palm, listening intently, keeping his eyes on yours and under the impression you were about to have a speech about the affection you express to him. (Well, you were going to, but seeing him being slightly prideful in this case was funny). So you instead put your index finger and thumb together, pinching hard and pulling at his face. The raven-haired man clearly wasn't expecting that move, as his entire upper half was dragged to your direction with just the light force of your hand on his face, a yelp falling off his lips and his eyes wide from surprise.

Recovering just as fast as he's been tricked, Norton grabs your offending hand's wrist with his own, pulling it from his aching cheek with a glare. "Why you—" Easily, Norton drags your entire body against his bare one, hooking your arm around his back as he smothers and kisses you silly.

Yea, definitely just like an old married couple. Though if you have to be honest, (Y/N) Campbell does have a nice ring to it...
