Scene 9.5: She's Mine
"Noona! Noona, we need to go!" Junyoung says, waking up so early that it surprised even Joohyun who was already getting ready to leave for her early work when the little boy had woken up, even earlier than intended, since he woke up at five.
"Wait up! Gosh, it's only eight and my classes are not until eleven!" Karina says, finally getting her shoes sorted out, bringing some of the books that she had needed for the day that had started so early, filling her with annoyance at the circumstances.
("Why don't you just sleep in and let Junyoung go to school alone?" Joohyun asks whenever they have times like this, and Karina just frowns at that. "He's just a little boy," Karina complains, and Joohyun chuckles at that. "I want to keep him safe!" she reasons out, Joohyun still chuckling at her. "Fair point.")
After sending Junyoung to his school, she took a slower route to her own, moving at a snail's pace as she busied herself with looking through some sales in the convenience store, admiring the morning glory of houses and parks she never cared to look at, but still she did not find anything else to do and just went to school.
Finding the cafeteria already open at nine thirty, she grabbed a juice box containing sweet tea (she had a certain craving with it after Winter let her take a sip of one) upon one of the vending machines and just decided to spend the rest of the time there before classes start, relaxing upon the chair—
"Hey! Mind if I join you?"
Karina raises her head to see Wonyoung smiling at her, a coffee cup in hand as she did not even wait if the girl would say yes and just sat down upon the seat opposite of her, sipping on the fresh cup of coffee that she must have bought outside the school, because Karina just knows that the school does not sell coffee here.
The two of them share a table in silence, having their own little worlds while sipping on their own drinks, but it was Wonyoung who broke the silence first, posing a question that Karina could not avoid, having her full attention on it as soon as she heard those words.
"Hey, are you and Winter dating?" she suddenly asks, and Karina looks up from staring at the table mindlessly to see Wonyoung smiling at her hopefully, waiting for an answer to her question.
"Uh... no, why?" Karina says, getting through that question with little to no difficulty, but the next question sends something sharp upon her heart, making her choke into literal air—
"So you don't mind if I date her, right?" Wonyoung asks, Karina certainly taken aback as a dozen or even hundreds of possibilities go over her head right at that instant, all of which involves Wonyoung and Winter, the student council's mascot replacing her in all of the equation, in all of the things they share together, and she will simply be gone—
"Y-You don't even know if she's straight or she likes girls—"
"I'd take that chance," Wonyoung says, chuckling as she put her elbows upon the table, like a player placing a bet upon the casino table, shouting all in or some sort of expression, and Karina could not read if she's still bluffing or if any of it is real or the girl is just playing with her. "I'm a risk taker, after all."
