"There must be another way out," Layla looked around.
Marc shrugged off his backpack, setting it on the ground, "Okay. Go, find it. I'll hold them off," he nudged you along to follow after Layla.
He picked up the axe from Alexander's sarcophagus and held it in his hand, ready to use it as a weapon, "Come on!"
"Just you?" Harrow declared as he walked into the room of the tomb, his cane in hand. The golden scarab he also had landed back into his free hand, "The rest is silence. I remember the first morning I woke up knowing that Khonshu was gone. The quiet was liberating. You're a free man." He continued as he got closer to Marc, who seemed tense, stopping just before the stairs, "And, of course, with that freedom comes choice. And right now, you have a very important decision to make,"
Marc exhaled heavily after a couple of moments, "Okay,"
Harrow glanced at the man behind him and he approached Marc with a gun, slow and steady.
Before the armed man could get any closer, Marc acted quickly and swiped the gun out of his arms and used the axe to cut off the male's arms, who yelled out in pain.
A man had crept up behind Marc and tried to aim a gun at his back. You wrapped your arms around his neck in a chokehold, tugging him back, and rammed his head on the edge of the sarcophagus.
Elodie sprung to action, appearing from the crowd behind Harrow. She caught you by your shoulders and pushed you back until you were stumbling back several steps.
While you and Elodie were caught in separate combat, Marc went to kill another person next to him and then he threw the axe, slaying another guy who was standing in front of Harrow.
Just as the man was about to fall, Harrow shook his head and grabbed the gun from him. He held the weapon in front of him and fired twice.
Marc took a step back in startle, the pair of bullets lodged into his abdomen. Red hue spread throughout his white clothes and he fell back into the water clearing behind the sarcophagus.
Another shot was fired and this time, the bullet tore straight into your heart.
You lurched forward in pain from the effect of the shell, blood drenching your outfit as it seeped out of you.
Elodie's eyes widened as she stared back at you in horror, taking a step back.
Layla slapped her hands over her mouth from where she witnessed you and Marc getting shot. Dread settled in her stomach as agony threatened to tear out of her throat. Tears burned her eyes and she took a step back to be out of Harrow's eyesight.
"I can't save anyone who won't save themselves," Harrow remarked vainly.
Your legs gave out and you fell backward onto the floor behind. A sharp pain sparked from the back of your shoulder since there was nothing to cushion your fall.
Your eyes fixated on the dimly lighted ceiling above you as it began to cloud out.
It was as though one moment was stretched out into thousand rhythms, making the most of the last moments. A ringing noise filled your mind as your eyes began to flutter.
The pain slowly dissipated into numbness, spreading throughout the body.
It was peaceful. Quiet. Mute.
A feeling of hindrance and burden diffusing off of your shoulders. It was something you've always wanted.
So you welcomed it with open arms as you gave into the empty abyss of darkness.
